what do you do for the environment?
something? or nothing at all? tell me...
i try to save electricity by not turning on the lights unnecessary, i'd rather put on an extra sweater than turn the heating higher, i don't drive a car and hardly ever ask a plastic bag in shops (take my own bags with me) it's a start i guess. |
I turn off lights and keep the heater off because I don't like spending a lot on bills. I don't drive because gas is high as shit and I live in a crowded city.
I'm usually too jaded about doing little things for the environment. |
i compost my veggie refuse
i have a small car that eats little gas. i need a car, living where i live. i sell the cans to the aluminum guy for 70c a lb., except we don't drink soda anymore, so better yet, i avoid aluminum consumption. oh we buy most of our food organic. that avoids pesticides, pestilence, and pests. some other crap i don't remember. honest. |
i am a member of greenpeace. is that enough?, we recycle, we turn off lights. we walk everywhere if it's possible, i don't litter.
|
I rescue whales on my days off.
|
I eat many types of animal on holiday, so preventing the overpopulation of species such as cow, chicken and sheep.
|
recycle, use public transport, turn off everything, play make out music to pandas in the hope they will reproduce more.

that's the best idea i've heard in ages. |
recycle all aluminum, plastic and paper, collect those plastic grocery bags and return them to the store
i have a high tolerance for heat, so i keep the AC off until it starts reaching above the 90F mark, and try to use fans when possible i hate driving, so often i just don't go anywhere, when i do i am analy retentive about fuel economy, so i check the tire pressure often, the air filters and keep the windows open instead running the AC |
I don't know that "The Environment" was my main motivation in the following choices, but it is either a secondary factor in making that decision or a nice byproduct thereof:
Vegan diet Bicycle used for 99% of transport year round Recycle Compost Electric lawnmower (2-stroke gas engines=gross) Use my own bag at the co-op where I get most of my food |
Vegetarian because of family restrictions; vegan on my own accord.
Never EVER litter. Recycle a vair bit. Compostness. ...And listen to music through relatively large speakers all day. =/ |
recycle bottles and paper, hell, I am the green ranger, i dont need to do anything cause i fight rita.
|
oh yeah i forgot i walk/bike whenever i can, use my bag at the coop, all that crap.
melly-- that was hilarious. |
My vasectomy also means one less resource-consumption machine with potential to reproduce in turn showing up on the earth.
Fuck a human population explosion. Edit: Not that the environment was even remotely the primary reason for that particular decision. Pure byproduct there. |

fuckit if it's going to be composed of morons. i'm adding my own contribution into the gene pool. if only idiots reproduce, it's going to be like this: ![]() ![]() |
i shit in a bowl and eat it for me lunch.
ahh no just messing, thats icky. i am quite envoirmental though, i wash all me clothes at 30, i seperate the plastic bottles and the cardboard ect ect. |
I recycle whenever I can, my parents try to buy local produce whenever possible, I bike to work (except under certain circumstances).
|
Good thread! I bus, walk, and bike absolutely everywhere, and only use the car maybe once every two months.
-I bike to work and back every day. -I NEVER use stir-sticks, it's such a waste of plastic. -I prefer shopping at places that have biodegradable bags and that don't use styrofoam for anything -"For Here" instead of "To Go", because "to go" needs all this unneccessary travelling packaging and throw-away materials -Don't use AC. I have a fan in my room -Put my computer on Sleep Mode whenever left attended for a while, and shut it off if I'm gone for more than an hour -I recycle everything I can -I never throw out batteries I need to start: Taking shorter showers Being more annoying about the importance of the environment to people Using the clothes line more |
Some things I do are just for economic reasons, other personal reasons. Even with this list, there's still a lot of stuff I could improve on.
turn off lights when i'm not in the room wear long sleeves instead of turning up the heat turn off water when i'm brushing my teeth/shaving don't drive fast try to recycle practice leave no trace when i'm camping play my acoustic guitar more than my electric gettin my masters in environmental management work at the national guard training center in the environmental resource division carpool to work member of the Nature Conservancy Things I want to do once I own a house: Solar heater for water Natural Lighting Geothermal heat Capture and use rainwater I think it's great to talk about this stuff so that other people can get ideas - as long as it doesn't turn into an environmental pissing match |
Destroy the o-zone.
Burn gas. Kill animals. Make life for every living creature slightly more difficult. |
