I was standing at the bus stop only today, and this woman kept talking about how we're progressing towards utopia.

I said "we're not progressing anywhere with this bus service".

The sharpness of my reply shut her up, but quick.

All of my friends are jaded college students, me included. I don't think I've met such kind of an optimist yet.

Man, nothing that great has happened in my life. My family is middle class, ranging towards poor, I didn't have a car like everyone I went to high school with till I was 20, I was abused by my stepmom when I was little, I've been cheated on, and about 500 other awful things I don't feel like dwelving into...

but fuck, life's not bad. It's just life, you know? Why be jaded? Why be upset? Why be mad about anything? People that think we're "progressing"; people that CARE about progress are silly.. so are people who think we're regressing.. who cares about anything? It's JUST life, it'll be over before we know it, so let's make the most of it.. who really gives a fuck? As a whole, we all have it very very well (to even be able to type on this message board should prove that), so let's shut up and start appreciating it. I mean, I used to have friends who hated life and always talked about how "bored" they were. Now I consistently hang out with one person besides my girlfriend. I don't want to be surrounded by boring idiots who think the meaning of life is to get drunk.

I agree with your points man, I don't think I'm jaded though, I just feel I have a realistic understanding of mankind.

Because the collapsing of universe is so distant from the short timeline of our lives that there isn't anything to worry from it? And a good life is defined by the fact that it comes to a conclusion?

the more we "progress" as a global society, the more distopian it all becomes.

well in a broad sense, i was linking back to the idea of "utopia", which simply can't be attained in the current system of "progress" for capital gain at the expense of millions.

For the record, I was just making a joke, but I liked the insight you guys gave anyway.
