reassessing master-dik
cuz he's on fire!!!
|
This is a fun one; possibly their 1980s equivalent of Zappa & The Mothers' We're Only In It For The Money. I wish they would reissue this, with the original EP comprising Side 1, and the non-beatbox version of 'Master-Dik', a live version of 'Beat On the Brat' (from Hold That Tiger or one of the similar unofficial bootlegs), the 'I'm On Fire' edit from the Nothing Short of Total War compilation, and maybe one or two unreleased things or an interview comprising Side 2.
A little light-hearted (and overlooked and underestimated) gemstone in the Sonic Youth crown. The funnier side of Ciccone Youth, the joke of which no one seemed to get at the time, sadly... |
"Taste my love" is one of the most awesome lyrics ever.
|
my fave bit is "ringo/he’s on fire/florida oil drums/westminster chimes" and of course master-dik is great, and the ramones cover. the rest is not so essential, but definitely interesting.

This would be a nice addition to a Sister deluxe reissue...doesn't sound like it'll happen though.
I traded an old skateboard shirt for original sst copies of EVOL Master Dik and the Come And Smash Me 7" years ago. |

I enjoy Master-Dik. Not one of my favorites, but it's a cool Ciccone era track.
One-2 One-2 One-2 TITTY! < that always makes me smile. |
