The mother, Peg Steele, explained her son had his leg amputated after a plane crash and kept the leg following the surgery “for religious reasons” she doesn’t know much about.

HAHAH religious reasons.

Gotta love this type of stuff...(recently there was lightning-penis guy)

http://www.newsoftheweird.com/archive/index.html

In August, employees at the bar Changes, in Seattle, had to break up a karaoke-night attack by a woman on a man who was singing the Coldplay song "Yellow." The woman had shouted, "Oh, no, not that song. I can't stand that song." She charged the stage, screamed at the man and shoved him (and it eventually took four men to hold her for police). [Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 8-9-07]

and on the macabre side...

Video Nation: A 38-year-old man drowned off Ocean City, Md., in July, trying to save his two sons from a rip current. Two men from a nearby parasailing boat had jumped in to help and could have used more assistance, one said, except that the boat's passengers declined, with several more concerned with video-recording the drowning. [KMGH-TV (Denver)-AP, 7-25-07]

As a 27-year-old woman lay dying from a stab wound incurred at a Wichita, Kan., convenience store, in June, at least five customers stepped over her to enter the store, including one who stopped to photograph her on a cell phone camera.

her name is peg steele, his name is wood...

Some good 'ol North Carolina/South Carolina hillbilly rivalry's going down haha.

Now the dude is charging people to see the leg (who are these freaks that can make time to come see it anyway? Surely it must only be his neighbors) and planning to exhibit it on Halloween. That's hilarious, scott v.

Funny thing about the guy whose leg it is...he claims he was saving it for religious purposes, and I don't necessarily doubt it, since some people feel they have to be buried with all their body parts. But why then store the sacred haha relic in a barbecue smoker and then forget about it later if it's so damn important to you?

its all quite baffling to me, but man it surely doesn't help play down the generalization that "good 'ol N.C./S.C. hillbilly rivalry shit" is not just some made up stuff...

atari 2600 10.02.2007 10:08 AM

oops, i meant "ol'," and not "'ol."

anyway, bump

yeah, these "folks" are quite the credit to humanity with their peculiar behavior

update on the leg story...

As you may already know, these two took their case to TV courtroom on "Judge Mathis."

Court rules man has no leg to stand on
The Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C.—
Nobody needs two left feet.
Even though a North Carolina man found an amputated human leg inside a smoker he bought at auction, he can't keep it, Judge Greg Mathis ruled on his television show in an episode that aired Thursday.
Shannon Whisnant had refused to return the leg to its owner, telling the judge he wanted to build a museum and charge people $10 to look at the limb, which had been cut off 2 to 3 inches above the knee.
"You're not getting that leg. I'm not giving you the man's leg," Mathis told Whisnant.
John Wood, whose left leg was amputated after a 2004 plane crash, joked to the judge about losing his leg twice. He had kept the leg and the cooker inside a rented storage space. When the South Carolina man couldn't pay the bill, the items were auctioned.
He said he wanted his severed leg so that it could be cremated with him when he dies.
The judge dismissed Wood's claim for emotional distress caused by media coverage of the case and ordered him to reimburse Whisnant $5,000. The men had agreed to have their case settled by Mathis, and they signed papers that his decision was legally binding.
