silver rockets/kool things
I can't beleive this was never released in the States. Why Japan only. How hard would it be for Geffen to press some up? DVD's are so cheap to produce these days, and the thing is already authored!
|
I taped it back when they played it on Sundance, but I can't find the tape ever since I left home for college. It could have been amount a million times better though.

what ? what are you talking about? links? I have no idea! I wanna know!!!!

SILVER ROCKETS/KOOL THINGS: 20 YEARS OF SONIC YOUTH (TVMA - VL) Dubbed by the press "the nation's best-known underground band," New York No-Wave ensemble Sonic Youth has spent two decades exploring music's frontiers in influential albums like "Daydream Nation" and "Goo." In this German-produced documentary, filmmaker Christoph Dreher listens to band members Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Kim Gordon and Steve Shelley as they discuss past controversies, their melding of music with the graphic arts, their much-publicized signing with Geffen Records and the notorious theft of their gear while on tour in 1998.
It was really short too....I'm kind of surprised it hasn't shown up on the Youtube by now. |

i thought it was a nice but overall not really that good of a documentary...
|
its a great film but as a documentary goes, the title is a little misleading... i really wanna see a good feature documentary about the sonic life. maybe an idea for chris habib and co to think about. a proper sonic youth trip down memory lane....... actually, lets wait a while because that could signify the start of the end....... lets not write the epitaph just yet.........

To be fair the kind of thing thats going to please those of us who have all the studio albums is unlikely to appeal to the curious fan with no experience. Id rather there was an easily accessible documentary that made it easier for the average music fan to become curious. Seeing as Sonic Youth have a reputation as this "massively important band who you have to invest time and thought into" (rubbish) when in fact the music is as easy to listen to as anything and just needs someone to provide guidance.

Someone posted this video for download a while back. i thought it was pretty good.
|
i've got a vhs copy of it (though it's missing the first few minutes, maybe 10). i thought it was pretty good. and i'm still waiting for that Summer Of Youth documentary from fine grind films... i don't think their ever gonna finish that shit. they need to hurry the fuck on up.
