I don't get the love for M.I.A.
 

I always read praising for M.I.A. everywhere and from people having globally same musical tastes as mine, so it's been a few times I tried to listen to her music and... uh, I just don't get it. I mean, okay there's some good instrumentations, and her stuff is not awful, but well, I think it's just some not-so-bad hip hop... [I really like Galang though]. But I can't stop thinking I must be missing something good, as I see people putting Kala in their 2007 Top 10 and all...

I think I've already read people enjoying M.I.A. there, so tell me, what do you like about her music?

I like her for some odd reason. But I have been into pop music for a while now, and she just did something different. I think she is not for everyone though.

yeah her music to me is whatever meh stuf. i think shes for the kiddies into the mainstream stuff to feel wild and rebellious. i doubt people who already dig underground music, particularly the extreme stuff (noise, hardcore, grindcore, doom, avant garde, etc...) would find her too interesting. shes sexy to me though, if that is relevant in the slightest.

I'll never understand why being an avid listener of "extreme stuff" should prevent from having fun with/liking other less "extreme" stuff. Batreleaser, I can understand your point about mainstream kiddies and the related second part of the post, this is not a post "against you", rather a more generic rant.
Hell, I've got Zu and A Short Apnea cds next to "smash hits from the 60's" on my cd displayer (<---how do you call them?).
Liking something does not necessary imply an "objective", "artistic" value in the thing liked, it's just a feeling, a sensation, a matter of taste or even plain fun, after all. Like watching a Bergman movie followed by Toxic Avenger. One can enjoy both, even if they are on totally "different levels" from an objective pov.
