Amon Düül II
what a great fucking band! their period from '69 to '76 is just amazing.
i just had a urge to tell everybody about them cuz they just fill my heart. check them out if you haven't heard them. the most common recomendations are Yeti, Tanz Der Lemminge, Phallus Dei, Wolf City...you can't really go wrong with any of these! |
yeti is indeed amazing.
they weren't much of a live band, though, were they? that live in europe album is pretty bland. they were one of the pillars of the so-called krautrock metal and yet, they always seem to fall by the way side on people's top of mind. amon düül I were also cool, not as much but definitely good. |
Phallus Dei is in my top five album titles ever.
|
yeah, god's penis, the title track, is AMAZING.
|
I read about them in this Ebook that someone on here posted a while back (I think it was ssaramkrop) and printed out, i think it was a compilation of Krautrock album reviews.
|
yeah after being used to that "full sound" of their studio recordings live in london may sound a bit weak... but i still like it and give it a listen every once in while. but have you checked the videos of some of their performances on youtube? there's one were they play soap shop rock that its great.
last week i finally bought tanz der lemminge lp (the english version), i found it in a local record shop. it's like in third hand or maybe more, but the records are fine. its just missing some plastic on the cover. yeah, and their artworks were very nice too. very surreal. you mean julian cope's krautrocksampler? i've also read it two months ago. its a good read! |
Band rocks super fucking hard. That one part on Tanz Der Lemming with the phasing is some good rocking.

yesterday i bought a 3xdvd full of krautrock metal performances, with can, tangerine dream, guru guru, xhol caravan and, of course, amon düül II. i'll report back after checking it out. |
My German original of Yeti is one of my most prized LPs.
I do think they went on way too long, but they made three or four completely incredible albums. |
Got this from dime about a year ago:
1/18/75 Phonzeit TV "Surrounded By The Stars" WDR-TV Berlin (pro) svcd I could have sworn that Savage Clone stated before that Amon Duul I was better than II, and now it's the opposite. Oh well, disregard...I'm probably misremembering. |
I think you are misremembering.
I like a small sliver of the original Amon Duul, but a lot of it is pretty aimless clanging and banging, especially "Disaster." |
