is adoption up?

✌➬ 01.17.2008 12:48 AM

Did you read it?

Savage Clone 01.17.2008 12:50 AM

I would hope that this would be a reflection of conception rates going down, personally.

And no, I didn't read it yet and this is a sarcastic kneejerk reaction blah blah blah.

terminal pharmacy 01.17.2008 12:51 AM

yes i read it, surgical abortions are down, but the stats don't seem to count ru486.........

✌➬ 01.17.2008 12:52 AM

I would like to think that too Savage. Hopefully it is more people using more contraceptives, than having kids.

jakeonguitar 01.17.2008 01:13 AM

Really, I don't care about abortion rates. Whether they're up or not, let the women do whatever the fuck they want to do.

But, keep abstinence-plus federally funded and teen pregnancy rates will continue to drop.

✌➬ 01.17.2008 01:14 AM

The flaw with abstinence only funded programs, is that they are deluding themselves on thinking that the other methods won't work. I say both should be in place, but without religion put in place.

jakeonguitar 01.17.2008 01:23 AM

1. Religion isn't in place. It hasn't been since 1993. It may seem that way with Christian churches backing the shit out of the funded programs, but per an AFLA settlement in 93, religious values and references aren't allowed in these programs.

2. Federally funded abstinence-only programs do not exist. It gets labeled as "abstinence-only" when actually it involves most aspects of abstinence-plus. Abstinence is truly the best way to prevent from pregnancy and STDs (no shit), but the federally funded programs do touch on other methods of protection.

people are just so damned weird.

People need more information than just a line in class.

You know how many myths do kids believe, on how to prevent diseases and pregnancy? Way too many, there needs to be a formal way to teach them.

Parents?

✌➬ 01.17.2008 01:52 AM

Yeah, but most parents don't want to talk about it. Also most are probably religious zealots to even mention sex. Also many parents themselves are bad at explaining this, where a professional or someone educated in it can explain it succinctly.

jakeonguitar 01.17.2008 01:59 AM

Well, I believe that "most parents being religious zealots" is a generality. Secondly, dads must have had balls to produce the kid, so chances are he still has them and should confront the kid about sex. What kind of example are parents setting if they can't/won't talk about it?

If a parent is bad at talking to his child about a subject that is publicized every day by the media and [some] arts, then how does he raise a kid in any other aspect of life?

I have to kind of agree with you on that. Is just that most parents just tell them to refrain until marriage. Well I will leave it at that, have to go to bed soon.
