When bad things cause good things.

My great aunt is an artist, she's always painted and taken an ass load of pictures. It's pretty much all she does as far as I know, and pretty much all her friends do. But she's recently gotten this hereditary eye disease that runs in my family and is going blind :( I feel really bad for her because she can't even see well enough to do what she loves and she's only in her 70s. I talked to her on the phone today and she said that when my mom goes to see her next, she would give me two digital SLRs and a zoom lens that she bought and now can't use. One is a Nikon and one is a Sony, I don't know which that lens is for, or what the models are because I didn't ask. I feel so terrible about her eyes, especially because she lives on her own. But on the other hand, I am totally pumped for two new SLRs. It's a bitter sweet deal I would say.
So I have two new things on my agenda:
~ figure out which camera I'm going to bring on my trip to Trinidad and Tobago
~ buy a pair of sun glasses to protect these bad boys in my head and lower my changes of getting this shit ass disease.
Your eye balls are precious kiddies, remember that.

I had an infection that almost destroyed my eyesight. I caught it just in time though.

I am rarely outside without wearing sunglasses.

It's this computer capa that gets me worried about eyesight.

ALIEN ANAL 01.28.2008 12:39 AM

what sort of sunnies should i invest in
what makes sunnies look good on someone?

Norma J 01.28.2008 12:47 AM

Whatever you see and try on and that you like at the shop, whatever shop that may be.

I have alot of sunglasses of all different types, so I couldn't really answer that other than the response I gave.

ALIEN ANAL 01.28.2008 12:48 AM

mm i guess so
i thought maybe there were a few "rules" that apply when buying sunnies

Norma J 01.28.2008 12:57 AM

Ummm. other than not looking shit in them... nope.

just try on different pairs, i myself favour larger ones because they look much better on me if they cover up my eyebrows it seems. i usually wear aviators or wayfarers but depending on whatever else i've got on i've got some huge ones from the 70s, my favourite being a pair of black and silver octagonal ones.

ALIEN ANAL 01.28.2008 01:08 AM

hmm fair enough
i think my gf has a few pairs i can go through

big day out this weekend, pretty exciting.
woo a weekend of sex drugs n rocknroll :P

Cantankerous 01.28.2008 01:13 AM

whos playing at the big day out this year?
edit: i looked it up and it doesn't look to be too exciting.

ALIEN ANAL 01.28.2008 01:33 AM

oh yeh the line up isnt that great
but im excited as heck to see Battles and Bjork and i guess Rage just for the fact i prob wont have a chance to see them again

EMMAh 01.28.2008 01:31 PM

Glasses are always tilted on me too, and I need light ones or they bug the fuck out of my nose.
I have a pair of fake Oakley's that are white with brown spots on them, but I don't think I'd want to wear those all the time. My dad actually found them on the side of the road downtown or something.

afterthefact 01.28.2008 02:29 PM

You really want to make sure you get UV protection too, cause otherwise sunglasses can actually be worse for you eyes. Your eyes typically squint and undialate with no sunglasses. Wearing them though causes your eyes to think it's darker, so they will dialate a bit more and you will squint less, and this can expose them to larger amounts of damaging UV rays.

Yes, UV protection is very important. I doubt the fake Oakley's have it haha.

oh you nordic types!

the sun is great, we all evolved under it.

i only wear shades when driving. or out in the snow.

but anyway. everything in moderation. getting frittered red like some human lobster is not good for anyone.

anyway emmah, sorry about your great aunt, you can see this as giving her a new life-- you continue stuff. she'll be happy and proud to see another generation of artists in the family i'm sure.

ps when wearing sunglasses cheap is bad-- you wanna make sure they got good UV protection or they will fuck you up MORE. how? under the dark glass the pupils dilate-- if the UV rays come through, they will do it in a GREATER amount that if you were shade-less and squinting. nature is smarter than bad equipment. make sure you wear good shades or none at all.

floatingslowly 01.28.2008 02:54 PM

oh ffs I'm bored.

That is what I said...?

My point was to wear UV protected glasses, otherwise you could end up doing more damage.
