best of luck... i remember playing out of town for the first time, great experience but also pretty nervewracking for me at least because of being unfamiliar of the surroundings and what the crowd response would be... had a combination of good crowd response (not really bad as in being booed or getting bottles thrown at) and little to no crowd response (which in this case should be interpreted as bad) my band only played a handful of out town gigs before we fell apart...
the key is if you are little known band trying to establish yourself and you are playing out of town for the first time is trying to play at a decent venue that is somewhat cool and draws people and that you are on the bill w/ a local band with a decent local draw, that always helps to get you exposed, something my old band should've probably done a better job with. so it takes some research as out of town promoting is tough and can be unreliable if you are depending upon the promoter to do it (as i've found through personal experience) the best way is to have the local band on the bill do the promoting, so a local band that is decent and does good promotion will help a great deal. |

crap, i didn't see your post, nef. but thank you very much, fun was had! --- thanks you all for your comments!!! it was very fun, and crazy, it was a packed house on a vacations monday, which in itself is mindboggling. the crowd was cool. the only bad news is that my guitar broke during the onstage madness, it's not completely destroyed, it can probably be fixed but it did contribute at me playing a short angry set. ff: i would go play in israel whenever i have enough money to go there. yeah, i was really nervous on the trip there, although i managed to sleep some, it was like i didn't know where i was going or who the people i was meeting were like so it's, you know, the unknown that's a bit intimidating like you said. i actually opened for justice yeldham (technically, i closed, but yeah...) and also played with blast beat from austin and two local bands, they did a great job promoting the show, getting the word out. crowd response was ok but i did have to follow the local bands and the headliners who are very extreme onstage, so i probably didn't go as well as i would want to, but i don't stress over it, it was really fun and people did complain that it was a very short set i did, but that it was good. so yeah, i'm really happy. now, it's time for my second out of town gig ever! this time closer to here but still...wish me luck. |
glad to hear all went well. . .
and get the money quick, noise is super popular now and you wouldnt want to miss your chance before the next crazy younglings fad takes over....:-) |
recordings/pics/vids by any chance?
Glad you had fun, hope the guitar will still be usable for the next gigs...... BEST OF LUCK!!! I'm in a hurryyyy!!! |

yeah true, or i may just switch to whatever crazy youngling fad takes over and play there. Quote:
they recorded everything and it will probably be available online soon-ish. they also videotaped it (not sure if my set too) and they are hoping to do a dvd release. pics, probably but not from my part so, if they surface, i'll post. i have another guitar, i'll try to be more careful with it. and thanks!!! |
I posted too late to wish you "good luck dude, I LOVE playing out of town.
It seems like the people are much cooler elsewhere..." So, instead: I'm glad it went well!! |
that's awesome you had a great time and you get to play out of town again. how many shows have you played?
|
Glad you enjoyed yourself. Pics?
|
this week is probably one of the most physically and emotionally intense weeks in my life, the things i've gone through, shit i'm glad i'm all one piece.
in short, between three cities, i broke one guitar, broke the tuning peg of the other, smashed my microphone to little pieces, played two shows with just a guitar and a microphone, my time onstage amounted to about 25-30 minutes in total and made like 7 cuts in my hand from playing (at least one is going to leave one permanent scar). can't wait to do it again, but not for at least a week. still no pics and i really never notice squat when i'm playing, so i'll post when they surface. and really, if you have the chance to see justice yeldham and/or blast beat (especially austin folks) don't miss the chance because they both slay!!!! |
