the SY song the more in stereo

hello all!

when you listen to jimi hendrix "purple haze" you clearly hear that it's in stereo. the sound is separated between right and left. see http://www.deezer.com/track/1463 and you'll check.

Sonic youth 's song "100%" begins right ear and then left ear.

So could you give in this thread the song that uses the more the stereo. (same thread in Non-sonic sounds)

I remember in an interview, Lee talked about how Dirty used a lot of stereo effects.

every album ever except like Loveless and Pet Sounds is in stereo. Unless the band wanted a mono sound.

Mieux: De Corrosion is their track that uses the most stereo. Some parts in Sonic Death also strongly use it

Also their rendition of Four6

I'm not sure what the technical definition of "stereo" is, but what I think he's talking about is the effect where you hear distinctly different parts in the left speaker vs. the right. If you listen to the beginning of 100% with the left speaker only and then the right speaker only, you will hear two very different things. That's not true with all music.

When you make a record, I'm pretty sure you can choose the left/right balance for each track. Maybe on Dirty they put more of the tracks on extreme left or right, instead of the middle. Of course, I'm speaking in non-technical terms, since I'm not a recording engineer.

All of SY's albums from Dirty onwards (with some exceptions, yes) feature the guitars panned hard left and hard right. Jim's insertion into the mix altered things a bit, but I have to admit I don't understand this thread at all...

Yeah, isn't Lee always on the left and Thurston always on the right. I could be wrong though since EJSTNS seems to have Lee on the right and Thurston on the left.

if you want to hear an interesting experiment in stereo then get Ornette Coleman's Double Quartet. This album has a jazz quartet oneither side, one left one right. When you listen to this album in a normal centre position the music makes total sense, however, it also makes total sense when you listen to both the left and the right quartet individually.
