Great Organ Bands/Albums

Ive been listening to Blonde on Blonde alot lately and really enjoying the organ parts on it. It's awesome how back in the 60s the organ was so prominent in music. It has such a great effect, but has now just fallen out of favor.

Reccomend music with organ in it

fugazifan 04.10.2008 01:52 PM

united states of america
the monks
stereolab have some organ, i think.

Savage Clone 04.10.2008 02:08 PM

Electrip by Xhol Caravan
First Soft Machine

Savage Clone 04.10.2008 02:09 PM

Oh, and Cottonwoodhill by Brainticket.
And Tips Zum Selbstmord by Necronomicon.

SYRFox 04.10.2008 02:13 PM

Electrelane.

Also, I think Oneida uses organ, but I don't know whether it's synth or organ.

SYRFox 04.10.2008 02:13 PM

Oh, and CELEBRATION. Check them out, they're great

Savage Clone 04.10.2008 02:17 PM

We have a Mellotron in our band, but no organ.
I'm grateful for that, because it weighs a lot less than an organ.

I saw celebration open up for TV On The Radio almost 2 years ago. Great gig. I bought their LP that night. really good stuff.

I have not heard their new one.

dionysusundone 04.10.2008 02:31 PM

Celebration's awesome. (Note, check out their older bands Jaks and Love Life for some sweet Birthday Party inspired greatness)

What about X? Particularly on Los Angeles.

Rob Instigator 04.10.2008 02:32 PM

The organ has a very specific sound and it has such an aural history in music. it is hard to use it to new effect in music these days, especially since the synthesizer has pretty much done away with the organ as a pop music instrument.

the best organ is Jimmy Smith. I like Back at The Chicken Shack , Incredible Jimmy Smith, and Home Cookin'

it is jazz.

Spacemen 3 used a Farfisa to good effect. Maybe it was a Vox Continental, come to think of it.

Yep Jaks rules as well! I could never find Love Life stuff, but I'd like to hear them

Savage Clone 04.10.2008 02:42 PM

I saw Love Life once, they were super amazing and very distinctive.

there is some sick organ/synth damage action on that Two Bands and a Legend album which is the Cato Salsa Experience + The Thing + Joe McPhee... awesome recording.

I'm pretty sure their records are out of print, sadly.
I could upload them though.

SYRFox 04.10.2008 02:57 PM
