Got reaquainted w/Drive Like Jehu, who else sounds similar?

Went camping this past weekend, and was jamming Drive Like Jehu and Quicksand on the Ipod. Love em'. But I don't know too much about the hardcoreish realm of bands like those. Any suggestions? (I don't want much emo in there..)

batreleaser 05.12.2008 11:46 AM

like post/spazz-y hardcore?

the obvious choices would of course be hot snakes and rocket from the crypt.

other good post hardcore bands in the drive like jehu vein:

nation of ulysses
jawbox
early helmet
at the drive in
q and not u
lungfish
gray matter
egg hunt
refused

Don't forget Pitchfork, John and Rick's first band.

I'm doing a classics album post about yank crime sometime in the distant future...

Pretty much every band here is worth checking out:

Except nirvana and queens of the stone age-- what the fuck

Thanks dudes. i kinda know Jawbox, but will have to delve a little further. At the Drive in Sounds interesting. But i guess looking for a band that sounds exactly like Rome Plows would be a foolhardy approach. Its just so relentless and those guitars!! I do like some of the Hot Snakes snippets i heard from Thunder Down Under..

atsonicpark 05.12.2008 12:47 PM

Hot Snakes rule. Get suicide invoice...

batreleaser 05.12.2008 02:46 PM

you dont know at the drive in?

batreleaser 05.12.2008 02:49 PM

cap n jazz and faraquet are great post hardcore bands that i forgot.

a lot of those bands that were listed dont really share any charachteristics with the jehu though aside from dissonance (lightning bolt, the plot to blow up the eiffel tour, hella, arab on radar).

Do you generally lie on your bed at night sweating anxiously because you forgot to namedrop a band, by any chance?

batreleaser 05.12.2008 02:52 PM

nope. and i take it you didnt click atsonicpark's link either.

Recommendation threads are name drop free threads.

sarramkrop 05.13.2008 08:49 AM

Yes, mister, we know that. I was teasing da geek. Do you guys generally read everything on messageboards literally?

KNOCK KNOCK!

IS ANYONE THERE?

pbradley 05.13.2008 08:53 AM

Then I don't see why that sarcasm would be funny in the slightest.

Anyways, I have to answer the door. Someone is knocking.

sarramkrop 05.13.2008 08:56 AM

It was meant to be funny for myself, not for you, young man.

pbradley 05.13.2008 09:21 AM

I can kind of understand that becuase that "someone's knocking" joke was hi-larious.

jonathan 05.13.2008 01:16 PM

I highly recommend the Nation of Ulysses.

You also might like the the first Monorchid record.

I'd second lungfish. they don't really sound like Rome Plows (best song to run to ever) but there is a similarity. that and they're fucking brilliant in their own right.

ricechex 05.15.2008 12:52 PM

thanks for all yr input. after researcing some of the bands i really only dug At the Drive In and Hot Snakes enough to seek out thus far.
