False notes
What are your favourite tunes with some out of tune notes in it?
I was thinking about stuff like wilco - I am trying to break your heart, where the piano riff contains one false note, but it just sounds so very right. The song's in a nice flow and then suddenly you get this orgasmic out of tune moment. There must be other examples but I just can't think of any right now |
interesting question, although it is hard for me to choose one. so many of the bands I listen to seem to purposefully make "false notes" that it is hard to tell.

In my mind there's no such thing as a false note.

But anyway.
Many Snakefinger songs Many Residents songs All Bride of No No songs |
bride of no no crack me up.

I always thought that the note where kim says "the way" in Jams Run Free (I love the way you move) is "wrong," but it sends a shiver up my spine which is probably what they intended, so it probably isn't in fact wrong at all.

certainly instruments can become out of tune, but when people talk about a piece of music being out of tune with itself it just makes me think that person has a stunted appreciation of music.

Laughing Clowns - a lot of their songs have dissonance when the saxophone does its improvisation.
