i have a guitar-related dilemma
 

i own a Squier Stratocaster and i want to get a nicer guitar. i've been looking at several different guitars, mostly Teles (i like the necks, but the pickups don't really work for me). today, i went to a guitar shop and started noodling around on a Fender Strat and i really liked it. it's a bit different than my Strat (the neck is a slightly different shape, the pickups sound better, and this one has a single coil as opposed to a humbucker in the bridge position). i would really like to get one, but then i'd feel kinda stupid for having two of the same guitar. i could sell the one i have, but i fear that i would later regret having sold my first guitar (even though i've had my bass longer). can anyone give me any advice and/or ease my situation?

why feel stupid about it? SY have like 400 different Jazzmasters, I don't think it makes them feel stupid.

Don't sell your first guitar. I can never understand why anyone would sell their first guitar. Personally, I don't like strats, I'm not a fan of the bridges or the overall tone, but whatever floats your boat man.

go to a ton of stores and find a guitar that you hear and you think "this is amazing"

Agreed. I feel really bad knowing some people pay 500+ for a MIA fender strat when I really think they sound like ass and my most expensive guitar was 200 dollars.

Don't sell your Squier. They're decent guitars for their price range. Definitely get whatever guitar you want, man! It doesn't matter if you have 2 Strats or 2oo Strats. It's all good.

Give the telecaster another look though, I fricking love the ashtray bridges and the lipstick neck pickups. You can get an amazing fuzz-overdrive on that.

Also, try out some SG and Les Paul knock-offs before you decide on the strat. Oh, and try out an Epiphone Casino. My friend just got one and it is fricking awesome. I'm not crazy about Epi Les Pauls, they seem sort of weak to me in comparison to my Hondo II Les Paul Custom. I heard Agile and Rondo make really good LP copies now.

yeah, the only thing i truly dislike about the Tele is the bridge pickup. if they made a Tele with one of those Deluxe humbuckers in the bridge instead of the neck position, i'd get one.

i'm not a fan of Gibsons. it could be because so many of these shitty emo bands play Gibsons that i've just equated them with bad music. and Les Pauls come in ugly colors.

it is nt much to toss up between a squire strat and a real strat, the playing difference is very noticable. no need to hold onto your squire just because it is your first unless of course someone special to you bought it for you

yeah, my parents got it for me for Xmas a few years ago.

Don't let that get you discouraged. Not all Gibsons/ Gibson Clones are created equal. Some have a very crappy modern sound (the ones that shitty bands prefer to use) and some have a very rich vintage vibe to them.

did they ever make a lefty Marauder? i'd buy one of those.

Yeah, keep the squier. I was going to sell mine, but really it isn't that bad for a beginner guitar. Keep it on your wall and get it signed by a few bands and use it as a decoration, or just use it for making insane noise music while keeping your new guitar for delicate use. I want to get an Epiphone Les Pauls Custom or a Fender Jazzmaster <3

i still have my first acoustic guitar, but not my first electric.

My first acoustic is in terrible shape. Lent it to a rhythm player in a rock-a-billy band for a year. Ouch :(.

I still have my first guitar, a squire. and I'm not going to sell it, not just because it was my first guitar, but because my mom bought it for me as my high school graduation gift.

so, i've been looking around on the interweb, and i think i've found a suitable guitar. it's a reissue of the Univox Hi-Flyer by Eastwood. it's a "Ramones Model" which means it doesn't have a tremolo. the site has a list of demo guitars that it's selling for less money, and they have a few lefties for $250 (as opposed to $400).

Eastwood guitars look cool, but I've heard varying reports about their quality. The myrareguitars.com guy is really cool though. He has a great collection.

My first guitar is a 70's classical "Westbrook W-32", whatever that is. Really high action, but it's obviously nylon so it's incredibly easy to play so long as your fingers don't fall through the strings.

My favorite guitar is my reissued Tiger Eye Dean Cadillac. Got it for about $350, at a %40-off sale. Incredible value. No tremolo, but other than that I have no complaints. And it looks pretty sweet.
