Sperry Topsiders

Good summer shoe choice? Or no?

I need a good summer shoe that's good with both jeans and khakis.

Whatdya think? Alternatives?

girlgun 06.12.2008 04:11 PM

Cantankerous 06.12.2008 04:12 PM

My shoe of choice. They go with everything.

gmku 06.12.2008 04:15 PM

WTF? They wear them on miami vice? They're a pretty damned cheap shoe for those Vice guys to be wearing.

Cantankerous 06.12.2008 04:16 PM

get a pair of white ones and wear them with no socks and a pastel t shirt.

No trousers?

gmku 06.12.2008 04:17 PM

So what's the alternative? Can't do Converse or sneakers with khakis. That's tacky.

I've got some Clarks in brown and blue (the trad oxford Trek and Desert Boot). But sometimes they feel a bit heavy for this time of year.

gmku 06.12.2008 04:17 PM

come on, I need help. Quit trying to put me down just because I get around...

Cantankerous 06.12.2008 04:17 PM

KHAKIS are fucking tacky.

Pookie 06.12.2008 04:18 PM

Flip flops?

Actually I am looking for something that might work with no socks. And I just bought some pastel linen shirts from BR. Along with some white and some green khakis.

Maybe I am going with the Vice look.

Cantankerous 06.12.2008 04:20 PM

i'm looking for a HEAAAAAARTTTTT BEAATTTTTTTTTT

Pookie 06.12.2008 04:20 PM

Shoes with no socks? Won't they chafe?

No they're not! Not if you get the right kind. They're a nice alternative to jeans.

I got some really nice ones at BR for fairly cheap. They're summer weight and plain front, and they're slim but not overly slim.

I think khakis are tacky when they try to get either too dressy or too casual. Too dressy means pleats, too casual means distressed cargo.

You have to go for the plain chino looking ones.

Well, yeah, you know, you can find a bad example of anything. That is not what I'm talking about at all. And I know you know it and are just being difficult.

Plus I really doubt those are khakis in that photo. An 80s era suit pants for the Miami set does not a present day pair of plain khakis make.
