The Necks!!!!
|
I've bought three albums of their really wanting to like them, and it still sounds for all the world like the sort of music a bank would have in its adverts. There's not that many bands about whom I like everything except what they actually do.
|
i like what i've heard by them, but i didn't like it enough to want to buy it.
|
haha ok no diggers then

It may interest some of you to know that I saw the Necks yesterday, and they're definitely a live show worth seeing. Interestingly, while I'd definitely like to see them quite a few more times, I'm even less inclined towards their records now.
The drummer is one of the most delicate improvisers I can think of. He's special, that one. |
I was very intrigued to hear them a few years back, because the descriptions of their music made it sound like it was created according to some blueprint I didn't even know I'd created. But then I heard some and it was nthing like I'd thought it would be.
That drummer (Tony Buck?) plays with Lee Ranaldo in Glacial sometimes, I think. |
A quick internet search shows, yes, Tony Buck of the Necks does play in Glacial with Herr Ranaldo. I've not heard that particular side-project, and I have much less inclination to given how terrible I've found most of the side-projects I've heard.
They are certainly pretty unique in their field. It seems like one of those things that you imagine there's lots of people doing it, but no-one you can put your finger on. I'd definitely recommend seeing them. Except, y'know, the tour's now finished for the UK. |
they are definately a live band, the albums just aren't the same, unless you have a big room, with some slight dampening and a nice transparent system to play them loudly though.
live they are the shit! |
