The Birthday Party "Junkyard"
After chatting w/Cantanky about the B Party this morning, I figured a poll is in order for everyone to choose their fave tracks from one of my fave all-time albums. Bought this when I was 18 and never looked back.
So, what's your favourite tune, then? And for all you BP fans, here's one of my fave pieces of footage by them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhecf...eature=related |

Both great, espesh that version of "She's Hit". I wonder who that girl is in the audience (the one that smiles lovingly at Nick)? Come on Cantanky, it was you, wasn't it?;);) |
hamlet (pow! pow! pow!) followed by kiss me black
|
you figured me out
my plan has been foiled again! |
Heh heh, I'll know you'll be off again soon to be at other famous gigs. ("If you look very closely at the footage of My Bloody Valentine playing "You Made Me Realise" for the first time at the Croydon Underground club, you can see a certain figure in a parka shouting, "Turn it up, turn it uppp!!!")
|
is there actual footage with someone in a parka shouting and would it happen to be melly the magnificent?
i actually just watched that video of "she's hit" all the way through nick looks brilliant and of course is obviously smacked out of his mind and the guitar sounds so awesome |
"Could it be Melly the mild-mannered janitor? Could be!"
Rowland is one of my guitar heroes. I really wish I could play guitar like him. I mean, I can play "She's Hit" on my geetar at home, but it sounds like pure shite compared to Rowland. (Rowland looks great in that footage too). |

HA! nice hong kong phooey reference! i think it's a matter of getting the effects and timbre of the guitar right, not so much how you play it so long as you hit the right basic notes at the right time. |
|
Yeah, it's definitely a sound thing, isn't it?...I love the guitar sound on the BP's "Wild World".
I was thnking the other day - wouldn't it be cool for an all-female rock band to cover "Junkyard"? It'd give a different slant on the lyrics, and I reckon a femme band could do a really grinding version too. |
that would be cool
maybe i'll try that out |
oh oh oh oh... oh oh oh oh... oh oh oh oh... oh oh oh oh... oh oh oh oh... deeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaad Joe.
|
Yeah, you should give it a go. I could imagine you singing it with the right amount of menace and sexiness (I think Junyard be a v sexy song).

But I haven't listened to the album and I personally doubt that it could live up to that brilliance. |
