where is your favourite place on earth?
or places if you can't decide.
i've never left europe, and never been further than northern spain/ southern germany (whichever is furthest from london) in that case, so i guess i haven't got much authority to decide. i am, however, particularly fond of county kerry on the west coast of ireland. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2404/...f89e4d.jpg?v=0 http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2048/...688b7d.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/27/45...31b8d6.jpg?v=0 ![]() ya, i adore the place. all my dad's side of the family come from there, and we have a farm which is bordered on one side by the sea, and on the other by mountains. amazing landscape but almost completely unknown to most people (which is great, don't get me wrong!). what about you guys? |
I really like the North Head ruins in New Zealand. Can't find any good pictures, though. It's a kind of have-to-be-there thing. There are some very nice isolated shady spots on the ocean-side of it. I'll upload some pics I took in a sec.

i know what you mean about having to be there; that way you can truely appreciate the massiveness, or starkness, or mysticism, etc.
new zealand and the american north west look amazing in general, both places i really, really need to visit. |
1. haight street, san francisco
2. the social, orlando 3. st. george street, st. augustine, fl. 4. cafe eleven, st. augustine |
Florence, Italy.
|
my uncle used to live illegally in san francisco. his landlord was married to someone related to sly stone, and every once in a while sly would blaze on my uncle's doorstep.
another place i wish i could go... |
that's too cool.
even the touristy areas of san francisco are so beautiful and fun. chinatown is a hell of a ride. |
I think I've been to the Haight, but I was too young to remember. When I was younger I used to drive around a video game I had (Midtown Madness 2) that took place in San Fransisco, trying to find that street with all the tie-dyed windows.
I also want to go to Ireland more than anywhere else in the world. Second would be Tokyo, but Seoul was kinda close, so I'm in no hurry. |

Shanti-Stupa, Leh, Ladakh, Northern India

I've posted this already on the Photography thread, but it's worth doing again - this is the best place on Earth I've been to so far in my life:

Iowa City, Iowa, along Linn St. near the old Pearson's Drug Store.
God, I miss the hell out of my old town. |
My old town is Croydon - a total shithole. I do envy people sometimes for loving their old hoods, because frankly, you couldn't pay me to go back to that arse-fest again. I went back there last year to see my mate's band, and immediately realised why I moved out in the first place *shudders*
|
I would go back to my old town in a heart beat. It's an oasis, truly, in this ugly world.
|
That sounds cool, gmku, really. When I went to Melbourne the last time, everyone (ie the locals) there was really positive about it, and I can totally see why. I do love living in London proper, and consider it my true home now (have lived here longer than anywhere else)....if I could, I'd move to Melbourne now, it's that great.

tokyo is the best place in earth
|
I have family in Kerry, Cork, and Kilkenny.
But right now I am pretty happy in San Francisco but I'll be needing to consider elsewhere once this lease is up. |

I'm cursed with nostalgia for the place. It makes me miserable sometimes, missing it. |
Nothing wrong with nostalgia if it's for good personal reasons. Mind you, as my mate Dave said to me a while ago, "the golden days are now", which is so true.... Places can = great memories, after all.

i go to Guernsey, Channel Islands everysummer for a week to visit my best pal there, a sort a father / brother i never had kind of dude.
I've been going there each summer for twenty years, I even woorked there during three successive summers, I am 30. There's nothing exceptional there,, i'm just really linked to it in a subtle way. ![]() http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2385/...g?v=1195309325 |
