john wiese...

a true heroe of modern noise, a decent musician workin in noise, or lame. ill have to side with the former. the guy is unfuckingbelievably prolific, even by modern noise standards. his solo shit, collabs, and especially sissy spacek, have all been responsible for some mega brutal headfuck records operating in this thing called well composed noise.

highlight records;

solo;
soft punk
inescapable conclusion
black magic pond
teenage hallucination
arrythymia wave burst 3cd

collab;
w/ c spencer yeh-live in nottinham, tiny red tables 7 inch
w/ dilloway-total eclipse
w/ mighty merz-multiplication
w/ pain jerk-mental peace liberation front
w/ hive mind-trick satanism
w/ the cherry point-white gold

sissy spacek (one of the best bands around today, period);
s/t
remote whale control
poling
sepsis
scissors
california ax

very very very very very very very very very very very very very hit or miss.

most of his stuff has like 5 minutes that are utterly brilliant, about twice as much of generic harsh noise and and whatever is left (usually around another 10 minutes) of completely dull filler.

french record sucks so hard, i can't believe it gets mentioned as one of the best albums of the year.

i think my favorite of his is his collab with daniel menche.

Haha I don't know why, but that's one of the best descriptions I've ever heard. "It's absolutely, 100%, positively...one or the other."

Everyneurotic 07.28.2008 02:58 PM

bastard noise are patchy too, but the ratio of good shit compared to his other projects is better.

I approve of this thread.

Soft Punk is like a pinky Merzbow.

Toilet & Bowels 07.29.2008 04:58 AM

saw him play earlier this year... it wasn't that good, but wasn't that bad either.

jimbrim 07.29.2008 05:53 AM

Yeah, i quite like what I've heard of his solo material. I thought Bastard Noise were pretty crappy though.

hmm...all i have is soft punk, and i think its pretty damn good. the best cut and paste collage-y type noise record i know of. any suggestions? and who was at no fun fest when his fucking laptop broke and he never played? that sucked.

i like sissy spacek best. as stated above, his solo stuff is choppy, but sissy spacek is 85 percent killer. the project started out as a noise grindcore project, as evidenced by the s/t record. but then went on to include musique concrete, power electronics, cut up, glitch, etc..
