Melvins appreciation thread

They're awesome. My favs:

1. Electroretard
2. Stag
3. Stoner Witch
4. Houdini
5. Singles 1-12

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.25.2008 01:38 PM

I really like A senile Animal.
Houdini is great as well of course.

Rob Instigator 08.25.2008 01:46 PM

most of the ones you list are OK but do not RULE
they are mostly straight metal ca ca

the best melvins are

OZMA

GLUEY PORCH TREATMENTS

KING BUZZO

BULLHEAD

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.25.2008 01:49 PM

Gluey Porch Treatments was the first one I got back in Middle School. I used to think I was cool for having it at the time.
On a side note, it's weird thinking about when I started buying cds. I was my sisters age, Nine. It's strange because I see her as still being really young.

Derek 08.25.2008 01:52 PM

Bullhead is the best Melvins album.

noisereductions 08.25.2008 01:55 PM

Um, #1 I put ELECTRORETARD which is so far removed from "straight metal"...

Rob Instigator 08.25.2008 02:49 PM

just teasin man. col' chills.

I love the early melvins so much though..........

_slavo_ 08.25.2008 03:19 PM

... I just fucking can't stand them :D

viewtiful_alan 08.25.2008 03:32 PM

I love the melvins quite a bit.. but still associate them with a ruined end to my summer so.. yeah : (

atsonicpark 08.25.2008 08:42 PM

They're great, one of the most consistently awesome bands ever. Even their super experimental noisey albums are interesting, if not good. But they can still rock after all this time.

narlus 08.25.2008 09:56 PM

My amount of respect for them far outweighs my liking of their music. I think Gluey Porch Treatmeants, Lysol, and Bullhead are all very good. I just find the rest of their stuff either rehashed, average, or just flat-out boring.

atsonicpark 08.25.2008 10:46 PM

It's hard to choose a favorite. OZMA/GLUEY PORCH is the classic of course. I dunno, I usually reach for Bullhead.

Dead-Air 08.26.2008 12:22 AM

Dale Crover is the best drummer in rock hands down. Buzz is some kind of inhuman archetype that defies any sort of natural explanation. I can't express how weird it feels that my friend and former karaoke host is now their bassist...

batreleaser 08.26.2008 12:47 AM

for thier more straight ahead rock stuff, definitley bullhead. for the experimental wierder stuff, definitley prick. i like all thier amrep stuff actually.

batreleaser 08.26.2008 12:55 AM

honky is killer too, and fuck, so was houdini. the fucking band is amazing at thier most commerical and thier most wierdo, such a good band.

noisereductions 08.26.2008 07:17 AM

I really liked the live Houdini album, in some ways more than the studio.

noisereductions 08.26.2008 11:36 AM

Wow. I'da put SENILE somewhere in the middle. I have Almost all of them.
