i saw the meat puppets last night...

saw the meat puppets here in tucson last night. me and some friends (who originally didnt wana go, im like, the fucking meat puppers dudes!) got super drunk and stoned and just went. the puppets surprisingly sounded fucking great! i mean, they really rocked it, the sound was good, vocals were nice, they still got that hippy truck driver punk thing goin on. one of the most fun shows ive been to in a long time.

Glad to hear. I fucking love II and Up on the Sun (they have a few other alright records, but those two are my favorite.) Can't wait to see them open for Built to Spill in a few weeks.

II and Up on the Sun are my favorite ones too when I'm in the mood. When they opened for SY (back in the old days & before their more recent slot as first up for SY) in '91 they used to play their version of the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Yr Dog" as a set closer.

i love that song.

II is unparalleled as thier best. every song is an instant classic. amazing melodies, simple but exciting guitar playing, excellent vocals/lyrics, and one of the few 80s underground bands not afraid to embrace thier love of classic rock, country, and creedence clearwater revival.

They've been great both times I've seen them.
Cris is so animated on stage.

viewtiful_alan 08.31.2008 10:45 PM

Nope.
I loved it.

i enjoy their first record and ep. did they play any songs off of those two records?

Andrés 09.19.2008 10:34 AM

I don't think they play those songs, although they might play tumblin' tumbleweeds or walking boss.

hey i was at that show too. The meat puppets were as always fantastic, they always come off alot more psychedelic live.I loved that beatles cover they did (Tomorrow Never Knows) holy shit man that was spectacular and that set closer version of lake of fire that went on for ten minutes with those crazy sped up and slowed down sections. I wasted all my energy on the pups set that i was already tired before built to spill even took the stage. Regardless they still put on a great show too!

I got audio from the show ill post sometime in the week.

northampton, ma? if so, what part of mass do you live in? i grew up in sandwich, small retirement community on cape cod that for some reason has a massive oxycontin problem among teenagers. if youve ever heard about dr. brown, the guy who got pinched for illegally prescribing 30 percent of the state's oxycontin, he was my town/family doctor. anyways, i live in tucson now, been here for two years going to school at the university of arizona.

well the MP indeed performed walkin' boss a few shows ago. I still cannot accept there's no single recording of MP performing II.

Shit!
