Mcafee= resource hog.

Mcafee > Norton/Symantec. NAV is the biggest piece of bloatware I've ever used. |
avast is seriously the BEST.
www.avast.com its free for the home edition, its a 30 day trial unless you register but registration is free. so its totally free for the home edition |

The top 3 for windows seem to be:
Antivir - I had problems with high CPU usage when I tried it AVG Free - Seems to work OK, but I never get viruses (accidentally) Avast - Haven't tried it, yet If you're not using it already, I recommend AdAware for spyware, which is far more common if you're using IE. I've seen computers where spyware has completely taken over to the point of being unusable, and it's a rarity when I use someone else's computer without it having something nefarious on it. |
Someone is going to say "the best protection against viruses is a Mac".
Before you do, it's not funny. SpyBot AdAware (As recommended above) Those are two great (free) spyware programs that might solve some problems. They don't help with viruses, though. I use a payed-for Norton so I'm not familiar with free virus stuff. Either way, I find the two spyware programs are practically a necessesity, and I hate unnecessary programs cluttering up my computer. If you use the internet, they will fix things. |
You must give more fist bumps to other people before giving into Saturnine again
|
AVG antivir
SpyBot Search and destroy I have using that for a long time now, and i never have problems. And it`s free |
avg and avast are good but get zone alarm and some spyware stuff as well as these can stop stuff getting on yr hard drive in the first place.

AVG is the product of choice for us, at home and at work. It updates automatically (and frequently). |
I use kaspersky and haven't had any problems.
|
AVG is all you need really, its the best free antivirus around
