I want to be cold

Any other Microphones/Mt. Eerie fans here? Been a longtime follower.

I've listened to a fair share of his output and think it's rather weak in the songwriting dept. I love lofi when the songs are good.
I'd prefer Six organs.

......

the glow pt. 2 and the microphones album "mount eerie" are two of my favorite albums ever.

Did you get the reissue of GLOW PT2, adam? It's got an entire 2nd disc of new recordings. Not leftovers, but like a companion album he recorded NOW.

I'm very partial to IT WAS HOT, WE STAYED IN THE WATER. That album crushes me.

atsonicpark 11.12.2008 06:50 PM

Never really gave it was hot... much of a chance, I remember liking it but it didn't wow me so I didn't listen to it more than once. I've been meaning to go back and re-listen to it.

Never got the glow reissue... also, I've never hard the band Mt. Eerie, is it radically different from the Microphones? I know it's the same band, I'm just wondering.

Phil Elverum's my favorite musical artist. "Lost Wisdom" with Julie Doiron and Fred Squire is spectacular.

davenotdead 11.12.2008 07:48 PM

glow pt 2 is incredible, and it was hot is great, and i've had mt eerie for a while but i need to give it a listen

noisereductions 11.13.2008 08:36 AM

No, Mount Eerie (the band) is very similar to The Microphones, really. I've heard ppl try to say it's different, but when you really start listening to the fringes of his discography, there's so much thematic/musical continuity.

A lot of the Mount Eerie stuff is maybe focused more on space outside of sound (ie: mostly just Phil + guitar and silences), but that's not always the case. For instance, 11 OLD SONGS OF MOUNT EERIE is Phil + casio keyboard! And SINGERS is Phil conducting a choir. And BLACK WOODEN CEILING OPENING is his organic version of heavy metal, which he's dubbed "heavy wooden." It's definitely biz-naz as usual for Phil, where he's constantly seeking out new visions of the world around him as music.

Anyway, IT WAS HOT is highly, highly recommended. Listen again. Especially the opening guitars, and his cover of "Sand" by Eric's Trip. Incredible.

I have to listen to It was hot again
I gave glow part 2 another spin yesterday and it didn't cut it for me....

^ crazy!

I don't see how people could not like the Glow Pt. 2. With tracks like I'll Not Contain You, untitled, and Instrumental #2... it's just beautiful sounds.

Everyone should give "Lost Wisdom" a listen too. It's my favorite release of 2008, and maybe of all time....

noisereductions 11.13.2008 01:48 PM

I have LOST WISDOM on my "to download list" on emusic.

I want to be buried in snow

The Glow Pt. 2 is indeed incredible. I've actually really been digging that as of late.

SuperCreep 11.13.2008 03:57 PM

The last three Microphones albums are crazy good. I don't like the Mount Eerie stuff all that much.
