NYC live throw down (1979-1985)
I got this yesterday. I'm about 9 hours into 26 hours of early hip-hop from tapes of live shows and such. It's pretty amazing. Grandmaster Flash, Cold Crush Brothers, Force MC, Bambaataa, Funky 4 + 1, Fantastic 5 and oodles more. Can't recommend it enough at the moment, although I'm concerned I may be pig-sick by hour 25. Then again, I still like TG after a ridiculous weekend in their company.
So yeah. Make this thread about spending ridiculous amounts of time listening to things if you like. Was it Mr Park who listened to the whole of the Merzbox in front of his blog? |

Wow that sounds fucking great dude, I'm always on the prowl for old Hip Hop stuff, mostly casettes, go figure. Did you order it off the net or what?

Google points to http://www.undergroundhiphop.com/sto...?UPC=MSG8001CD which explains that it's a box set of a whole lot of live bootlegs from the era complete with dvd mp3 data disc of all tracks. It's from a company calling itself Madison Square Garage Recordings.
I got these two from dime awhile back: Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five 12/23/78 Auto Bonn Ballroom NYC sbd 3/25/83 The Peppermint Lounge NYC aud x2 discs |

The cheapest I found it was on the Borders website - £30 or thereabouts. As Herr 2600 points out, it's an Mp3 DVD. 26 hours of lo-fi early hip-hop live and 'other' tapes. Which for £30 is a steal, if you ask me. MSG-CD-8001 is the serial number. You could probably download it without any trouble. I've already copied it for quite a few people, it's quite the thing to have if you're into this sort of thing. |
