This year I rediscovered two unreleased pieces I recorded seven years ago with Sonic Youth, whom I adore. I regret that my ex–record company refused to hand over the rights to these songs for the group to use on a CD and DVD.

it is positive that such recordings exist, it is negative that we can't hear them. maybe we should organize a petition to the record company...

Let's do it. Seriously. Aren't there like websites that will host and organize petitions?

online petitions really don't mean anything... I doubt doing so would make the record company hand over the goods.

what do you suggest, derek? I think an online petition led to the release of EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE.

I meant, once it got released, people would search for leaks of the 2 sy tracks rather than buyng the full album.

yes, but I think "we" 're not enough to convince a record label to give the rights to release those tracks.

Maybe start a petition for the label to upload the tracks to some torrent site/blog! Who knows they might just be crazy enough to fall for it.

They could sell the mp3's on eMusic, amazon or even (shudder) iTunes.

We could form a gang and storm the record company with pitchforks and rock candy.

doesn't sound much as a collector's way of thinking to me :D.
If I really was so committed to the cause to bring on a petition, inform people to have the petition signed and get lame mp3s as a reward I'de be better off with a leaked mp3 copy from soulseek...let's email Brigitte and ask her for a copy! :)

I'd opt for the CD. I still want an SYR7 CD. Amongst others.
