ESG

I don't think we've ever had a thread about them, not that I know of. Anyway, the coolest of the coolest, as cool can possibly be.

Derek 01.16.2009 05:54 PM

I'd rather listen to KoRn.

sarramkrop 01.16.2009 05:57 PM

I think divine forces are asking you to.

MellySingsDoom 01.16.2009 06:02 PM

They be playing in March at the Barbican - I really want to go see them.

jennthebenn 01.16.2009 06:04 PM

Sorely underrated by this board. Unbelievably fucking cool and funky.
Hip hop producers are still sampling "UFO".

Do it. Snoopy commands you.

I have to admit that they were one of those bands I sort of pretended to have heard long before i actually did. One of those, "Oh yeah, ESG, amazing" kind of stock responses that I give about bands I won't admit to never having listened to. But, having quite recently heard them for real I have to say, yeah, ESG, amazing.

Great news.

One random thing about them: slow down/speed up their songs, and they still sound great in all their simplicity. Such a great band whichever way you look at them.

Mo Tucker's solo records sometimes remind me of theirs. So humble, so amazing.

first band i ever broke out in dance too at ATP UK 04

just awesome

o o o 01.16.2009 06:52 PM

it's one of my friend's favourite band. it could also my favourite band, except that i probably have 100 potential "favourite band ever".
i also like their simplicity and awesomeness.

i don't think they are that underrated on this board. they have been mentioned a few times, and many people have jumped each time to say how great they thought they were.

So that it doesn't sound like another vague sarramkrop statement on the SY messageborad, 'Spam Again' on Mo Tucker's 'Life in Exile After Abdication' is one of those songs that reminds me of them quite a bit. Also the vocal style.

Oh and on the same album SY give a fucking excellent performance with Mo at the drums.

uhler 01.17.2009 01:00 AM

amazing band. esg was the soundtrack to my summer 2 years ago. i, also, listened to liquid liquid a lot that summer.

PAULYBEE2656 01.17.2009 06:56 AM

liquid liquid are much finer but esg deserve their place on my shelf...

Yes. I was trying to remember their name. I've not heard much by them (apart from the obvious Cavern and some other odds and ends) but yes, definitely worth more coverage.
