recommend me some more flicks

I saw Crash by David Cronenberg recently, and I really loved that. Also, I'm always up for cool sci-fi movies.

No need to suggest any Cronenberg, I've watched nearly everything worth watching by him.

I've seen Tetsuo by your recommendation as well as El Topo
I'll have to look up some of the others

atsonicpark 01.18.2009 08:18 AM

Have you went through your DePalma (blow out, body double, obsession, dressed to kill) or Kitano (sonatine, dolls, fireworks, violent cop, boiling point, takeshis', scene by the sea) phase yet? Those are directors worth investigating. I dunno. PIERROT LE FOU is worth watching!!

nicfit 01.18.2009 08:32 AM

I'm a cyborg but that's ok

and the vengeance trilogy by its director.

atsonicpark 01.18.2009 08:37 AM

I'd agree, you should check those out and the his segment in 3 Extremes as well.

SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE, in my opinion, is one of the best films ever made.

atsonicpark 01.18.2009 08:52 AM

Let me tell you how good Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is:

I rented it, watched 30 minutes of it, and went online and bought a copy before finishing the film. Then, I finished the film and it was 10x better than the first 30 minutes.

atsonicdude - I see you listed "Combat Shock" above. Have you seen the ful uncut version of this (called "American Nightmare")? A brilliant film, and includes what is easily one of the most nauseous drug-taking scenes in celluloid history....

atsonicpark 01.18.2009 07:11 PM

Yeah, it's weird actually, I have the uncut version called "combat shock" (in America, from Troma and some other company together before Troma had Troma Team Video) on vhs... but it turns out, when Troma released it themselves on DVD, it was cut for some reason.

Anyway, brilliant flick, one of my favs.

asp - Just remembered - my VHS copy had a Buddy Giovinazzi short, called "Mr Robbie" - it featured Joe Spinell as the aforementioned Mr Robbie, and was a "promo" for a to-be-made full length feature - it wasn't bad, from what I recall...kinda like an unofficial follow up to W Lustig's "Maniac"...

Yeah, my copy has no trailers, but I have seen the Mr. Robbie trailer on the MANIAC DVD. They only shot like 5 minutes of footage. It looked like it was going to be amazing. Joe Spinell was awesome. MANIAC is one of my all time favorite movies actually.

There have been so many releases of all these films throughout the years that it's hard to keep track.

I've come to the conclusion that I like every sci-fi movie from the 80's that I've seen.

barnaclelapse 01.18.2009 08:34 PM

I take it you didn't see Space Mutiny.

I'm tempted to recommend The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, but I'm sure it'd be your kind of thing.

Rushmore's his best movie IMO.
