sunglasses/shades/sunnies
its that time of year. sun is out. i need some new ones. the old aviator-like shapes fit my face the best i believe.
what should i get? ray-bans are always good... good resale value too von zipper make these badass rockford files type pradas are too expensive, but i could swing for armani, gucci, or dolce... they'd be $75-100 on ebay |
![]() Left: Anglo-American clear plastic frames with script lenses, like, 250 for the frames and 200 for the lenses (I had eye care insurance at one time) Right: American Aviator non-script, like, around 25 in the Army post military clothing store. |
I have these. $16 from Target, they get the job done. I like the style, might bring for a better pair like them at some point.

I have a hard time with sunglasses. For one thing, the current trend for over-sized aviator-style makes me feel ill. I don't usually think a whole trend is hideous (it's usually down to the individual) but unless you're portly (but not fat) or an unbelieveably beautiful person, I think they look shit.
gmku has glasses that I like - they don't say "these are my sunglasses, motherfucker" and they don't say "I think looking like John Lennon is not a shit idea". Decorous, tasteful. However. I look fucking awful in most sorts of sunglasses, and I need prescription sunglasses. All terrifically annoying. |
I wear Velvet Underground-style wraparounds.
I used to wear huge space-bug sunglasses, but no more. I need light blockage on the sides and the front. |
Do it the DIOR way

i generally have a beard and an afro. futuristic stuff and wrap-arounds look like fashion oxymorons on me.
if its 60s/70s/80s style, its more likely to work i think |
I had a pair of rose colored sunglasses that I wore three years ago when I had my hair long. Also this was in San Francisco and I would often wear my army jacket which got some acid-wrecked old man to ask me if I was a member of The Lovin' Spoonful outside of a bar. Also hit on by non-hippie chicks which confused me.
Now I have some small frame metal frame shades only because the blue/green eyes in my family develop cataracts in the California sunshine. I rarely wear them, though. |
I wear plain black big sunnies(generic, since I break them fairly often), or the white kurt/jackie o ones. Tha's about all. I bought a pair of aviators once but I looked even more lesbian than usual, and so abandoned them.
kind like this but without the rhinestones. ![]() |
round xmas I got myself some Clubmasters:

i wear these wayfarers my mother used to wear. they're dark brown and simple. me likes.
if i remember your face right, you'd look pretty ok with aviator-style glasses. |
