Anybody into The Gun Club?
I recently got Miami (on blue vinyl, no less) and somebody gave me a CD-R copy of Fire of Love. This is great stuff! I'd never heard of them before a few weeks ago.
Anybody have any recommendations about what Gun Club to get next? |
i'm teh same as you, someone mentioned them in the slide guitar thread and i downloaded a few tracks, thought they were great and bought miami

Worth getting:
Fire of Love Miami Las Vegas Story Mother Juno Pastoral Hide and Seek For a later period compilation: In Exile (combines much of Mother Juno & Pastoral Hide and Seek) Lucky Jim and Divinity I haven't heard. Early Warning is a collection of early live stuff, demoes and home recordings which is interesting but not essential. Death Party (the re-release on Sympathy) is so-so. Jeffrey Lee Pierce's solo albums, Wildweed and Ramblin Jeffrey Lee, are, again, interesting but non-essential. Most of live stuff that's available sounds like it was recorded through several pairs of socks. Ahmed's Wild Dream (from 1991/1992) is good quality though, but it's hardly vintage-era. Avoid the live videos of Gun Club like the plague. Not only do they sound like they were recorded through several pairs of socks, they look like it too. Gun Club site Gun Club on myspace |
Personally I'd stick with the first 2 LP's: Fire of Love & Miami. They went on to do some stuff which paled in comparison. Avoid in particular Pastoral Hide & Seek.

Sorry, sonicl, I replied at the same time as you. I'm not deliberately trying to contradict everything you say!

Pookie, I was starting to think we might be about to fall out there!

Aside from those you have, Las Vegas Story is really good.
