In this topic: you recommend me movies.
Now, you should assume that I don't know shit about the film industry, and in this assumption of yours, you would be correct. Also in this handy-dandy assumption of yours, assume that I've seen nothing except these movies:
Alice in Wonderland Annie Hall Band of Outsiders Clerks Dogma Dr. Strangelove Eyes Wide Shut Full Metal Jacket Kill Bill, Vol. 1 and 2 The Godfather The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Psycho Pulp Fiction Requiem for a Dream Reservoir Dogs The Royal Tenenbaums Rushmore The Shining Wild Strawberries Assumption #3: I will not stand for mindless action flicks. Really though, I'm up for any genre, whether it's mainstream or obscure, all the movie has to do is not bore me. |
Before Sunrise and Before Sunset
The Squid and the Whale um, or you could go for the gusto and watch Abel Gance's films. |
You've already seen enough. I don't think you need to bother with any more to be honest. Superman 3 maybe. Or Maybe Uncle Buck. Yeah definitely Uncle Buck.
|
You must resurrect John Candy before giving more rep to demonrail
Yes, watch Uncle Buck |

You need to watch Johnny To's "The Mission", "Fulltime Killer", and "Running out of Time"... Ringo Lam's "full Contact" and "City on Fire"... and John Woo's "The Killer", "A Better Tomorrow", and "Hard Boiled". I like some other action films but those are all ESSENTIAL. |
^^^Great list. I'd throw in some Kurosawa.
|
Oh yeah. I love Ran!
|
Ran and Throne of Blood. Definately. Fritz Lang too: Scarlet Street, M, Metropolis, Doctor Mabuse.
|
Citizen Kane, goddammit!

demonrail OWNS
there's a couple action flicks which are worth their rep anyway, fuck this senseless elitism... that said, go for directors: GEORGE A. ROMERO and JOHN CARPENTER should be in that list above (cool stuff otherwise atsonicpark)... PRINCE OF DARKNESS, THEY LIVE, THE THING from JC, and the DEAD movies by GAR... must see flicks. |
Just watch Takeshi Kitano's filmography.
|
Toy Story
Toy Story 2 Finding Nemo Monsters Inc |
Yeah, I forgot Carpenter. For some reason I always do. Most of his movies are amazing.
But I gotta agree with derek. Watch every Takeshi Kitano film and you should be good. |
If you just skim over the "Last Movie You Watched" thread you'll find tons of suggestions, and probobly many of the same films people are listing or will list here.
