King Krimson

What would you recommend? They have a lot of stuff, and I want to know which album I should get for starters. From what I have heard, I'm not big on their newer stuff...

ybag_girl 05.19.2009 11:22 AM

oh Lizard is a great album. i love King Crimson

afterthefact 05.19.2009 11:27 AM

I like them a lot from what I have heard, and I've known of them for so long that I feel almost ridiculous for just now trying to dig into them more. But it is what it is, and thanks for the suggestion :)

In the Court of the Crimson King
Red

Savage Clone 05.19.2009 12:20 PM

In The Court Of The Crimson King
Lark's Tongues In Aspic (ESSENTIAL)
Red
Lizard (only if you have a high tolerance for fey fantasy, though)

ricechex 05.19.2009 12:49 PM

RED is the best I think. Larks, of course. But the early 80's output is solid too w/Adrian Belew. Esp Discipline...

afterthefact 05.19.2009 01:43 PM

Ok, it looks like I need to go with Red, followed by Larks... thanks peeps...

Derek 05.19.2009 01:56 PM

Yeah, you've got that right!

Red
Larks
and I guess ITCOTCK

"Beat" sucks balls.

Derek 05.19.2009 02:18 PM

I like Beat... it is a lesser work though!

summer 05.19.2009 02:26 PM

Larks' and Discipline are all you REALLY need. If you start to get obsessed with the band, get The Great Deceiver. A four disc box set of live stuff from the 70's, quite a bit of it is otherwise unreleased improv.

SuperCreep 05.19.2009 04:36 PM

ItCotCK -> Larks' -> Red -> Discipline

In that order.

If you like those four (or at least 2-3 of them), get the rest of their albums.

auto-aim 05.19.2009 05:07 PM

i got ITCOKC a few days back... haven't listened to it mcuh. didnt care for it much i think. going to take me a while before i give it another whirl

summer 05.19.2009 05:39 PM

It is understandable if you don't like their first album considering it sucks. Get the albums I mentioned instead.

The Great Deceiver is a great boxset.

And ITCOKC is a great album... I like their other ones better but that album just has so many 'moments' on it.

RED rules all... epic masterpiece.

atsonicpark 05.19.2009 09:23 PM

Surprised to see all the Lizard lovers! I always thought people hated that one.

1. Red
2. Lizard
3. Discipline
4. Larks
5. Power to Believe

are my favorites.

afterthefact 05.21.2009 02:10 PM

Ok, I went with Red, Lizard, and Starless & Bible Black to start. So far, Lizard is my favorite.

reginald 05.22.2009 08:09 PM

Lizard, to me, was like NYC Ghost and Flowers. It took several listenings before I realized how good it was. A really tough listen at first, but became so excellent and totally different from the rest of their repertoire, BOTH bands !

Circus, Happy Family, Indoor Games....all masterpieces !!!
