Jesus and Mary Chain album poll
I fancy buying a Jesus and Mary Chain CD, but can't decide which.
Which do you think I should buy? |
Easy:
Psychocandy and Barbed Wire Kisses. And then all the rest. |

Psychocandy!!!!

Psychocandy's considered their essential album. Definitely the one you should start with to understand what JAMC are all about. I have Psychocandy and Automatic, which I also think is very good, and I want Darklands and Honey's Dead.

It's not worth going against the grain in this instance. Psychocandy, then Barbed Wire Kisses.
It's almost... shudder... a concensus ladies and gentlemen. |
i'd say "barbed wire kisses" as that was the first JAMC album i got..
it gives you a refined idea of what they're all about, plus you get the covers and rare songs that made the b-sides, so the album provides you with additional insight.. next stop will be "psychocandy", "automatic" and "darklands"... preferably in that order.. have fun, man.. the mary chain is something else.. |
and this is a unique opportunity for me to disagree with glice..
i say "additional insight," and glice says "conformity"... heh..! |

Psychocandy

Psychocandy....but that's the only one I own
|
psychocandy or barbed wire kisses, purely for their version of mushroom by can
|
Um, well...
I would always maintain that Psychocandy fully justifies the huge near-legendary reputation that has developed around it; there isn't a single wasted second on the entire LP. Wonderful noise, with beautifully simple pop songs underneath. 21 Singles is very nice to have: JAMC were a great singles band right up 'till the end (check out single no. 20, 'Cracking Up', if you don't believe me!). But I have to say that if you're looking for something that represents the band best, I do think that Automatic perfectly bridges the gap between what they were and what they were to become, aswell as being a tip-top-cool LP in it's own right. So there. Love. |
I love Psychocandy. Revolutionary album. I personally started out with the videos 85-89, and the first time I saw the video for Never Understand (from Psychocandy) I was blown away.

I only have Psychocandy and it's GREAT. Buy it!
