Suggestions, please?
I want to expand my music collection to include more cultural diversity. Could you recommend CD's that most genuinely represent the following areas (preferably earlier works)
1. Appalachian (mountian) music. 2. Early blues (Sonny and Brownie (sp))?. 3. Early Celtic/Irish folk. |
early blues, alright...leadbelly. robert johnson. sonny boy williamson. anything by them.

I can give you a bit of suggestions concerning apalachian/folk/bluegrass. My momma was a Bluegrass Musician.
Bill Monroe is fuckin bad ass...mandolin..fiddle..guitar...classic bluegrass Kate Wolf did alot of great shit..that was my momma's idol Woody Gunthrey, and Led Belly influenced pretty much everyone that has ever existed. I dunno guess they're early blues/folkish. Steve Earl isn't really early, but he makes some of the best shit I've heard in a while. I feel ignorant trying to classify him cause he displays so many influences, but I would put money down that he learned alot from the early style. |
