Bono should be put against a wall for the good of mankind.

atsonicpark 10.23.2009 01:34 AM

Billy Corgan. His band has one good song ("Zero").

U2 had about 5 or 6 good songs... so..

I'm not going to base it on anything besides them just being in bands who make music. No personal shit -- both of them are cockhounds. I'd probably take both of them, combined -- professionally and personally -- over that Deerhunter guy though.

phoenix 10.23.2009 01:42 AM

bono. he is just ridiculous.

alteredcourse 10.23.2009 01:51 AM

God, I love the song Soma by SP way too much to ever compare.

Oh fuck. I am probably going to cry.

jennthebenn 10.23.2009 01:55 AM

Bono was once seriously considered for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Corgan threw cock up in Courtney Love. He may very well still.

Musically...I take "Siamese Dream" over "The Unforgettable Fire." So
Bono it is.

I feel sometimes like I'm such a puppet of influence. And sometimes I feel like at least sometimes the puppetmasters of the time of my personal conception were full of blood and sincerity, as bat-shit crazy and deluded they might have been. And thats all I can go on. Blood blood blood, up the puget sound and into the georgia straight, into my toes as I dangled my lil kid feet off a rotting pier. There will be something left for me, I thought, they're there because they mean it.

Satan 10.23.2009 02:04 AM

bono because he's in U2

oh and he's a douchebag

atsonicpark 10.23.2009 02:07 AM

I'd like to change my original answer to this:

U2 has a great song called "One".

SP has a decent song called "Zero".

"One" beats "Zero" (huh huh, GET IT? GET IT? YOU GEDDIT?). I voted for Billy.

vulva 10.23.2009 02:19 AM

machina 2 means bono

alteredcourse 10.23.2009 02:20 AM

I love Bodies, and Where Boys Fear to Tread, and To Forgive.
And Eye.

I like a lot about SP.

When I was little, I used to like a lot about U2, as well. When some songs would come on the radio, I felt moved. And eventually, it was played out. So, for these things, it's probably all about circumstance. Funny how that works, like I'm not really me at all.

GeneticKiss 10.23.2009 02:29 AM

Celebrity hate is stupid. Don't waste your time. It just makes you look shallow.

FreshChops 10.23.2009 03:35 AM

Ah ha, trick question! You said who do you hate more.... like you've gotta hate them both. I actually don't hate either, but I could tolerate a lot more U2 music than I could Smashing Pumpkins.... although both have had their moments in influencing music.

I think as a fan of music, it's commendable to respect musicians / artists who offer something new and unique, even if it wasn't done to your taste. I think the world is getting so full of copy-cat artist to where I can't here anything new these days that doesn't sound like a direct reflection of the artists immediate influences. Both of those guys are one of a kind and when they were coming up, stretched everyones imagination. They also, from our perspective have made fools of themselves time and again.... but they also haven't conformed to what the public would like them to be or say. It's easy to hate them because of that, but I can see past their public persona and appreciate them as artists.

If you want to measure them by social engagements or community contributions.... I'd say Bono. He seems to do more for others with his time while Corgan would rather people stay away from him. I also don't blame them, they have spent half their lives having millions of people insist they are gods no matter where they go.... if they seem a little smug, after a while, I'm sure it's un-avoidable.

atsonicpark 10.23.2009 03:42 AM

Yeah, the votes so far have blown my mind. Bono might be annoying but Billy Corgan is the WORST HUMAN BEING EVER.

This is all sorts of wrong logic. Corgan is just a musician who talks shite in interviews. Bono is the indefatigably stampable face of every vainglorious, ill-conceived, tokenistic, patronising cod-political effort made by an ego-mad cunt. Corgan can be as much of a prick as he wants, but I've never known to interfere on things that actually matter and get it so horribly wrong. By which I mean Live 8s 'raising awareness' (that'll really help Africa! Thanks, celebrities!) and Live Aids (money back into corrupt governments to continue to fund militias and further fuck over already fucked populaces? Thanks, celebrities!)

I was expecting something big when I saw you posted in this thread, but this is unquestionably an ultimate sentence.

Sonic Youth Gossip 10.23.2009 04:27 AM

i dunno
corgan is more of a douche but some of his (older) tunes aren't so bad at all. U2 on the other hand I never really dug.

When I look at those two pictures, I can't make up my mind.

pbradley 10.23.2009 04:38 AM

The first song that I ever liked, beside my mediocre appreciation of classic rock, was a U2 song. "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me," to be exact, from the Batman Forever movie. I still maintain that song is fucking awesome but I have no concern for nor relation to U2 other than that.

Smashing Pumpkins, however, was one of those bands that crystalized my middle-class, pre-teen angst and, therefore, get nostalgia points for showing up.

So it comes down to a twat I know only through the noise tunnel of political humanitarian activism and a twat I know far more personally. However, the twat you do know can often be more offensive than the twat you don't. I shall place them both past the line of contrast and say rubbish is rubbish.
