stoppard or shakespeare?
...or, did i just get called a schoolboy on the internets?
so then fritz says to her, By and by, I come— To cease thy strife, and leave me to my grief. To-morrow will I send. Romeo: So thrive my soul— Juliet: A thousand times good night! Romeo: A thousand times the worse, to want thy light. Love goes toward love as schoolboys from their books, But love from love, toward school with heavy looks. so i said to no one in particular, speaking of the same woman, Thomasina: When you stir your rice pudding, Septimus, the spoonful of jam spreads itself around making red trails like the picture of a meteor in my astronomical atlas. But if you stir backward, the jam will not come together again. Indeed, the pudding does not notice and continues to turn pink as before. Do you think this is odd? Septimus: No. Thomasina: Well, I do. You cannot stir things apart. |

This, which I've read before, blew my mind afresh. Good/worse, night/light ... taking the simplest of elements, Will nailed something profound. I'm not sure what Stoppard's on about. I'm sorry, what was the question? |
stoppard's true west is a fine fine play though
|
arcadia by stoppard is one of my favoites, as it features a good bit of talk about both sex and architecture.

as to your other question, shakespeare is great and all but it's fucking hard to read his ancientese. and when i go to the theatre 1/2 the time i don't get what the fuck they are mumbling about. but yeah ok he's all that etc.
stoppard is nice, read arcadia a long time ago but i've completely forgotten it. except for something about a garden, and rabbits, or something. i should re-read... |
shakespeare was better than stoppard, but then so was pinter.
|
shakespeare's a talentless cunt.

This thing's viral now, so you may already be familiar with it.
What if... William Shakespeare wrote The Big Lebowski? http://runleiarun.com/lebowski/ |
... any play that has a teenage girl uttering the phrase "papa's landskip architect" is more than ok in my estimation.
