Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo
Hey all, first post!
I was listening to both Sonic Youth/Goo and Yo La Tengo/Electro Pura today and thinking about how awesome it is that my two favorite bands are on the same label now! Are the bands friends? I hear some possible influences and of course they've played at festivals together and what not. I have to confess, I have a fantasy that Yo La Tengo and SY will come to Minneapolis and each play a set of each others songs! Kind of a campy misguided notion... but hey, it's out there! |
second post!

Come on man, no need to be a dick about it. I don't know specifically, but I must say that I'd be very fucking surprised if Yo La and Sonic didn't know each other pretty well, all things considered. |
When Yo La Tengo played the 2nd Stage at Lollapalooza in '95, I'm pretty sure it was SY who picked them for it. They played an amazing set at the Gorge in Washington too. "Attack on Love" just shredded.

Steve Shelley seems like the kind of pussy who'd love Yo La Tengo

Date: Sunday, April 22nd, 2001 City: Syracuse, New York, USA Venue: Syracuse University SET LIST NOTES She Is Not Alone Bull in the Heather Free City Rhymes Nevermind Side2Side Schizophrenia White Kross Hoarfrost Drunken Butterfly NYC Ghosts & Flowers -- 100% Kool Thing OTHER PERFORMERS Yo La Tengo Return to the Sonic Youth Concert Chronology. ----------------------------------------- So this show happened in 'O1 and apparently it was bad sound system central. |
Of course, SY only hangs around Yo La Tango because SY sounds that much better in contrast. Clever move, if you ask me.

I'd love to see these 2 bands do a tour together.
