Flat Rents Where You Live.

How much would you expect to pay for a one bedroom flat where you live? I'm looking to move in a month or so but everything looks to be between £750-1000 a month. which is just ridiculous.

_slavo_ 02.26.2010 04:20 AM

I pay 500 EUR for a 2 bedroom flat (65 square metres) in the centre of Bratislava.
I don't really think this information is of any value for you though,

Pookie 02.26.2010 04:42 AM

Here they start at about £650 for a bedsit and go up to about £900 for a one bedroom flat. It's ridiculous when you think that's more than I pay for my mortgage.

phoenix 02.26.2010 05:03 AM

basic to "crappy" (ie my budget of late) around AUD1200 a month.. You can pay whatever you like over that though.. "Nice" would be in the region of 1600..

phoenix 02.26.2010 05:04 AM

^ that is around 2/3 the cost of a mortgage on something similar.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. It'd be so much cheaper to get a mortgage but I don't stand a chance of getting one now they're re-capping them at 3 times a person's salary. I was thinking of moving just outside London but the price to commute would more than make up for the money I'd save on rent.

knox 02.26.2010 06:07 AM

I'm like just outside London and the minimum would be 700, from what Ive been seeing. If you don't mind places that are very shitty, you could possibly get it cheaper. Commuting would cost more, but council tax would cost less. If I can make it work, I'll move to Lewisham, it's close enough to central London and the prices are significantly lower.

knox 02.26.2010 06:11 AM

but, it sucks.
and everytime i look they are demanding higher deposits.
so fuck it.

Phlegmscope 02.26.2010 06:23 AM

I pay* about 270 euros for my studio apartment and it's right in the center of the town. And that's about half (or less) of what it would cost if it wasn't for the government subsidized student housing company. I have to thank my luck for getting this flat.

*by saying "pay" I of course mean I spend my student benefits.

Generally rents are high though.

Glice 02.26.2010 06:49 AM

I'm not going to go off on my 'fucking London' rant. But suffice it say I'm intimating it.

demonrail666 02.26.2010 06:52 AM

it's ok. i'm looking at estate agents' websites and i'm thinking the exact same thing.

knox 02.26.2010 07:00 AM

if you do a search on gumtree, you will be able to negotiate directly with the owner by choosing that option.

demonrail666 02.26.2010 07:20 AM

I know a few people that've mentioned gumtree but I'm sort of reluctant to trust it. I know it's irrational though, and I really ought to get over it, especially if I want to save money.
