close to the edge vs. fragile
Gonna have to go with close to the edge..
|
Siberian Khatru is my fav Yes song so its a no brainer.
Not that Fragile is bad. Heart of the Sunrise and South Side of the Sky are pretty darn good. But there is a lot of filler--good filler but still. |
sooooooooo good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6xNhksHyXI
Also, Siberian Khatru is one of my favs too; the drumming alone...! |
Bruford kicks ass on the skins--but you're a KC fan as well?
Had some fun stuff to say on his time w Yes in his biography |
Oh dude, I love King Crimson... Red especially.. I used to be really big into prog, especially the more brutal stuff (and things in that vein which aren't always described as "prog"), though I like a lot of the classic stuff as well... my favs.. Crimson, Koenjihyakkei, Korekyojin, Gentle Giant, Dots, Shining, Zs, Extra Life, Grim Skunk, Magma, Ruins, Spiral Architect, Unexpect, Doctor Nerve, Cynic, Grand Ulena, Hoyry Kone, Sweep the Leg Johnny, Yowie, Dazzling Killmen, Collosamite, Ahvak, Dun (Eros is in my top 50 favorite albums ever -- an overlooked prog MASTERPIECE!), Univers Zero, Gong, and even Jethro Tull.
Listening to prog has destroyed my brain, and I like it. |
close to the edge. fragile is good, but nowhere near as cohesive.
|
I think there's songs on fragile I like better than close to the edge, but as a whole, it's just not as good. I love the production on fragile better, though, especially the crispy drums. Some of the album is just lethal, sometimes even getting into a weird beefheart vibe...?!
In my list of bands above, I forgot my favorite prog bands.. thinking plague and happy family! AMazing bands, check em out. |
I think fragile is the one I'll reach for when I want a short blast of brilliance (especially the 35 second Five Per Cent for Nothing, which is one of my favorite songs ever!!), since most of the songs are pretty short, tight, and concise, aside from the couple of 8 minute songs and one 11 minute one. But Close to the Edge is there when I want epicity.
|
Kinda like some SY albums, I'll acknowledge that the songs are good but isn't necessarily their best. I recently rediscovered The Yes Album and I'd have to say I like that better than Fragile.
For a true stoner experience, you can't match Tales |
Fragile - for Roundabout, and much better artwork - especially on the original vinyl.
|
close to the edge
I LOVE YES |
No contest. Time and a Word vs. The Yes Album, that would have been hard.
