What's the difference between a bar and a pub?

So this guy walks into a bar. Which was really strange 'cos the bar was well marked with flashing lights and cautionary tape and stuff...

This mushroom walks into a bar. The bartenders yells, 'hey, we don't serve your kind here' And the mushroom responds, 'why not, I'm a fungi!'

A guy walks into a bar with a duck on his head. The bartender says, "Can I help you?" The duck says, "Yeah, you can get this guy off my butt!"

a pub serves food and often has a place for families, they serve as neighborhood institutions, many even serve breakfast (even here in Los Angeles!) where as a bar is a place for strictly low-lives and loose women to gather for mindless drinking..

each has its own place in life, I generally prefer the atmosphere of a pub to a bar, but there are a few bars I go to, though honestly the bars I frequent are very much like pubs except they don't got food.

nah, I spend every weekend in the same bars with the same people and every weekend is similar to the one before. I don't see the thrill, but at least it's better than just sitting at home alone staring the monitor or the walls.
Around here bar and pub are pretty much the same thing.
