What is the media's obsession with " True Nature " By Jane's Addiction?

Even though I love Jane's Addiction ( Nothing's shocking is a killer album ), this song fucking blows, and in the past 3 months I've heard it in movie theatres, television commercials, and played by talk show house bands. I don't get it

krastian 07.13.2006 02:17 AM

Sure beats all the other crap you hear in movie theatres/tv. I really like that song....and the album.

thewall91 07.13.2006 06:29 AM

haven't heard it. do they have a new album out? does it suck?

love nothing's shocking, ritual, and the self-titled XXX release.

Tokolosh 07.13.2006 06:33 AM

What? Is there a new album? Hmmm.

kingcoffee 07.13.2006 08:48 AM

I'm just glad that good bands are being noticed. I haven't heard any media buzz about Jane's Addcition in nearly ten years. I don't like it when bands lend their songs/images to commercials for stuff. If it's for a concert or something really related to the artists work, I'm totally cool with it. But when it is for cars or soda or booze or MacDonalds, I have a major problem with it. It just seems to me like selling out. I hated it when I first heard Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin songs being used tom sell cars. I was also furious to hear Blind Melon's hit song "No Rain" being used to sell Pepsi. Also, I heard that the Flaming Lips lent one of their songs for a Coke commercial. I don't know why good bands do this. It really aggrevates me. Those songs have nothing to do with food/beverages/cars.

LittlePuppetBoy 07.13.2006 12:02 PM

Wasnt the Flaming Lips song Do You Realise used in a car commercial not too long ago?

Savage Clone 07.13.2006 12:47 PM

I would totally let Volkswagen use one of my songs (not that they would).
I have no problem taking that kind of cash from a huge company, and as long as I had no big problems with their products or ethics, who cares?
Writing jingles is another story. I would not do that in a million years. But to have someone pay you oodles of cash for existing art? No problem.
Fuckin' a; people think they shouldn't have to pay for albums anymore, so you can't make a decent living that way, people complain about even the most moderately priced gigs, so it's hard that way...there is nothing wrong with taking money for your art. Especially if you have no problem with the company.
Low turned down 50 grand from a Japanese beer company early on in their career (when they really could have used it), but went ahead and let the Gap use their version of Little Drummer Boy in one of their holiday ads. I have no problem with this, and was glad to see a good band with good folks in it getting some decent monetary compensation.
Yeesh.

EyeballGrowth 07.13.2006 02:31 PM

Yeah the lips unfortunately were used in a car commercial.

As for Jane's Addiction though, strays??? Uggh that album stank if you ask me, cept for Everybody's Friend and Strays. The B'sides one Kettle Whistle mostly sucked too if you ask me but it had 3 or 4 AMAZING fucking songs. " Annnd when the people jump in they hold their nose, and kiss these walls. Granite walls......... water polished walls. "

krastian 07.13.2006 04:05 PM

Strays came out like 3 years ago......I like it, but then again I pretty much like everything Perry does.

screamingskull 07.13.2006 04:08 PM

the lips are being used in a Beck's beer commercial at the moment too, saddest part is ive started buying the stuff.

acousticrock87 07.13.2006 04:11 PM

I see nothing wrong with bands being used in commercials if they actually like the product. If I were famous, I'd do a Mountain Dew commercial for free. Jack White's doing coke, isn't he? Nothing wrong with that.

habibtheantiamericanbitch 07.13.2006 05:37 PM

Perry Farrell was cooler with integrity. guess it didn't work for him.....

teenageri0t347 07.14.2006 02:47 PM

yeah theyd better stop playing that song... its ok its just that they would commercialize that song and then more and more mallcore kids will get into janes addiction and ruin it just like they did Pink Floyd!!

strictlycommercial 07.15.2006 07:20 AM

I haven't heard it anywhere but I'd almost like to, It's a damn fine tune. I kind of like it when I hear a good song getting some exposure, as long as it's not a really shitty product, a really cheesy ad or they run it into the ground with overplaying.

fishmonkey 07.15.2006 10:04 AM

Perry is a total Legend.

i love him to bits, Navarro is an MTV Rent Boy.

Cantankerous 07.15.2006 12:20 PM
