Most Experimental SY Songs?
Which Sonic Youth songs would you say were the most experimental? Btw this is not includin any tracks off the SYR releases or anything, just the straightforward commercially available albums... I would say:
Providence Contre Le Sexisme Scooter + Jinx (Just to start you off) |
I wouldn't really consider Providence experimental. It's just Mike Watt on a recording machine with piano and fuzz in the background.
|
Diamond Sea. A mixture of tonal music and complete noise.
|
Lightnin'.

I guess Mote could be described in quite the same way... |
Shaking Hell. It's a really disturbing song.

Yeah, mote. Though the "noise" parts of Diamond Sea are much more like noise music than the bits in mote. |
I'd go with your first three picks but I'd replace Scotter n' Jinx with...maybe "Lee Is Free"? "Karen Koltrane"? "I'm Insane"?

ghost bitch and satan is boring
|
Oh yeah, Satan is Boring. Good call. That's number three. Though I might put "invisible girl" on there too. "marilyn moore"...? that's the problem, they used to be so experimentally beautiful. now they're not even beautiful. but that's...another thread.

ghost bitch
satan is boring scooter&jinx lightnin' |
in the kingdom #19 is pretty experimental. Car sounds, fireworks and lee's bone chilling scream.
Mote Titanium Expose Rain King (just for the weird ass way the guitars sound on them) |
Macbeth man. It is one of the most experimental songs SY has done, but then again I guess the whole Whitey Album is.

Everything on Dirty, cause seriously, its a crazy experiment to shoehorn the sweet sweet noise into more conventional structures. |
Mariah Carey and the Arthur Doyle Handcream. :)

secret girls
|
Incinerate
|
I knew that was coming.
|
good question actually, in the same time controversial to which one actually really is, hehe. i'll think about which one is most experimental to me.
