Turqoise Boy
Hi, yes I am teh noob here... Howdy :D .
Now that is outta they way..... YAY i heart SY lots! I really dig RR as an album, it's a good contrast to Sonic Nurse. It's more harsh and no-holds barred type of affair. In other words, it rocks! Ok, gotta get this topic ON topic!! When I first heard Turquoise Boy, I really really enjoyed it. At the time I was reading the Ashok Banker book - Prince of Ayodhya (the retelling of the Hindu story of the Ramayana). And it struck me how much this beautiful song relates to Ram. As Ram is depicted blueish in colour and is in a forest - oblivious to anything other than the task at hand...it just emotes a feeling of what the song was literally about. I am probably way way off, but I find it rather amazing how it relates to it. And if i am wrong, then the cliche is true to say that songs can be interpreted in 100s of different ways! hurrah to that. |
I hate this song. But hi!

There is no Sonic Youth record that does not rock. :)

Yeah rather ripped is totally unbridled, noisy, crazy, lo-fi barn burner. |
I think it's actually more inspired by the Turquoise "Boy" of Navajo creation myth.

i have not heard of this myth...i'm sure you'd be right though. My theory is more of a sporadic thought |
Yeah, Rather Ripped is one of their best albums, if you can nick that top 5 to a top 6. Well you have good taste in SY, but Sonic Nurse is a disaster, for its production and songs, I don't like comparing the two albums.
Turquoise Boy is the best song on the album, Pink Steam is pretty great too. |
"Turquoise Boy" is absolutely beautiful. One of Kims best songs and the chiming guitar is sonic bliss.

Need there be a thread about every RR song?
|
Now, that's an idea... and if so, I vote for a Lights Out thread next. Heh.
