asp's classic albums # 96: space streaking - 7 toku
Another amazing Skin Graft record, this band used jet powered guitars (?!) and tons of home made synths and drum machines before any of that was popular. This game is comprised of 4 video game developers, too. Recorded by Albini. Simply one of the coolest bands ever, and this is by far the best so-caled "Japanoise" album ever, blowing away early Boredoms, Melt Banana, and so on.
Random video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBZsan0t3os Personnel: Kame Bazooka (vocals, guitar, alto saxophone); Screaming Stomach (vocals, guitar, trumpet); Karate Condor (guitar, guitar synthesizer, vocoder); Captain Insect (programming). Space Streakings: Screaming Stomach (vocal, guitar, trumpet); Kame Bazooka (vocal, alto saxophone, guitar, bazooka horn); Karate Condor (guitar, synthesizer, vocoder, vocals); Captain Insect (bass, programming, vocals). Alternative Press (2/95, pp.70-71) - "...Japan's Space Streakings cross the limits of lethargy. They hop to a computer-generated hyperspeed disco beat, tooting on horns, blurting on basses, and quick-rapping on natural fast forward....This month's slap-in-the-face to the jerks who think they've heard it all before..." NME (Magazine) (11/5/94, p.48) - 7 - Very Good - "...excellent beats, saxophones, and a sense of humor..." ... despite some of the instruments being listed, I gurantee you won't be able to tell what some of the instruments being played are. It sounds like most of the album is drum machines and a bunch of fretless basses being played 300bpm with weird ass sounds floating around. It literally sounds like music that is destroying itself, yet it never becomes just "Noise". Truely genius. ![]() |

SKIN GRAFT is an amazing label... fuck. AIDS Wolf are probably the only band on the label that don't really do it for me.
Album # 100 coming soon... hmmm.. WHAT WILL IT BE? |
