eddie vedder ukelele album
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011...ele-solo-album
i can't work out if this is exciting or hillarious? |
Its not that uncommon for artists to do this sort of thing. The tiny instruments resonate differently and can create interesting songs.
My guess he probably likes the uke for its musical properties not for its Tiny Tim qualities. It is a different instrument but most aren't open to its tonal possibilities. |
Having to deal with a muzak song that consists primarily of ukelele and a mandolin solo with some pseudo John Mayer singing where I work, I can safely say that I want no part of this.

thats what i mean, it's a bit of a joke or novelty instrument to most people but i'm strangely excited by the possibilities of it being played in an interesting way. Especially by someone who is no doubt a prick but i have alot of respect for. could be really good! or really bad! |
uhhhh
|
I like how the article refers to the uke as a "tiny acoustic guitar."
It's not a guitar. It is a ukelele. Why didn't they just say it was a mandolin with single strings instead of doubled courses? Perhaps because it is a totally different instrument. And hilarious. And this album will be atrocious. |
There was a point where every shit indie bill didn't have an ugly woman whinging with a uke. That point was some years ago now.
Good things that could come out of this: I will no longer meet people who think the ukulele is 'cool' and songs about periods are somehow a necessary thing. If anything says 'not a good bandwagon', it's Eddie Vedder doing it. |

Think again. |
i like ukes, probably not enough that i'll bother listening to a full album of eddie vedder though

Well. There we go then - we have the two largest avatars of utter shitness endorsing Uke. Which just goes to show - ukes are for CUNTS. NB I happen to own a banjolele, but it's looking increasingly unlikely it'll get played in public. |
has anyone else had people say
"Listen to this right, its Rage Against the Machine... played by UKELELES!" followed by the kind of expectant look a dog would have felt ashamed of ? |
The sort of people who say 'kooky' and 'freaky' but you know full well are missionary style for 10 minutes, impression of a plank and a box of tissues on standby, just in case sorts. Yes.
|
"aaaah yeah... Fuck you i wont do what you tell me...haha, yeah... you wouldnt assosciate that with a ukelele would you?"
When you say that, you are complicit in the night from hell |

Nothing Eddie Vedder has been involved in has been exciting in the last few years, and there aren't many elements to convince anyone to think this new release could be an exception. He has already explored this musical path in the past, "Soon Forget", off of Pearl Jam's "Binaural" is perhaps the clearest example of that, and most recently, he was doing this kind of shit on his 2008 solo tour. I can't see how he can do something significantly different to what he has done with this approach. From my point of view, speculation regarding this release is pointless. |
Nothing Eddie Vedder has been involved in has been exciting in the last few years,
agreed. Though hard sun was a good cover. |
I don't get this board anymore. So much for buying cheap booze and distancing myself from ''real life''.
|
Eddie Springsteen.
I'm sure it will be hilarious....but either way, good for him for doing something outside of Pearl Jam. |
I love Pearl Jam. but I hate Eddie's solo shit. So fucking boring. and he neeeds to ditch the uke.
|
Binaural was good. No Code was excellent.
That many albums, and most of 'em suck. That's my take on PJ. |
