Gutted: Age Restrictions for Nightmare Before Christmas?
Just went to buy my tickets for ATP in December before bein' confrotned by a large notice sayin:' "This event is for under 18s only. No refunds will be given for under 18s." And as I am only 16, well... bummer!
Is this true or is it just the overeactin' ticket companys, erm... overeactin?' Is it just an entry age limit? Will it be enforced tightly? Any further information on this subject will be greatly appreciated. It's an almost £200 gamble for me, and I know it's my idols, Sonic Youth I am gamblin' it on and so will probably be worth it, but I'm a tight ol' bugger and 200 quid is a hell of a lot of money to me (and don't even get me started on the 6 hour trek I'll have to complete to get there!)! |
try and score fake id

Its absolutely stupid! I'm 18 now, but when i was younger this kinda thing used to really piss me off.
|
They seemed strict enough about age at ATP when I was there before. The venue's changed, but to be honest, I'd say its a big gamble for the price...

Its Not Stupid. Its The Law. Alcohol Is Being Served On The Premises. Therefore Under 18s Are Not Permitted To Attend. It Does Suck Tho, I Totally Understand Your Plight, Been There, Faked The Id, Got Caught, Got Thrown Out, Still Got Pissed But No Gig Was Had, And It Was Cold And Wet Outside.
If I Were You, Id Chance It, Act Dumb If Asked But They Dont Ask For Ids At Gigs, Do They? I Dunno, Ive Never Been Asked. Although I Did Get Asked For Id About A Year Ago, He Laughed At Me When I Said Ill Go Back For My Drivers Licence. So I Went Back And Showed Him It. He Started Tearing It Apart To Make Sure It Wasnt Fake. When I Got A Bit Pissed Off With That, Its My Licence For God Sake!!! He Eventually Let Me In.................. I Walked In And The Guys I Was Meeting Were Walking Out So I Got Great Delight In Telling Him On The Way Out (literally 5 Mins After I Got In) That The Place Was A Shithole And I Wouldnt Let My Cat Drink A Pint Of Milk In There! Sorry, I Digressed! Take The Risk And Act Dumb! |
I was gutted too.

Wrist bands work great....that sucks ass.

hmm, that's stoopid. if the alcohol is served there, person under 18-teen shouldn't be served at the bar, and that's it, otherwise should be allowed to attend. i know that somebody over 18-teen can ask for his/her drink...but doesn't it happen on the streets anyway?
it must be a gamble decide if to go or no. |

maybe it doesn't have to be a problem as long as you're not the person under whose credit card the chalet is booked... i'm not completely sure, but at atp in 2004 i don't think they even checked my id or anything. one person was collecting the keys and the rest of us were just sitting around. you just had to give your details like address and date of birth etc but you could just fill out that you're 2 years older i suppose. i'm sure they will check the person who's booked the chalet though, because that's where they'll be charging from if there's property damage etc. but mind you this time it's in a different venue. |
yeah.
if you go with an over 18, get him/her to book the tickets, and then when you arrive you get them to go collect tthe keys, you should be ok. unlessyou look really young. i think they have it over 18's for a reason. not to be taken the wrong way, but when i used to go to reading and those kind of festivals, there would be alot of younguns running around acting like younguns. which is fine, but sometimes its also good to not have that going on. saying that though, im sure most under 18's would put the over 18's to shame at atp. my mates were running round pissed acting like two year olds last year. |
No under-18s? That's disgusting. If I had my way it would be no under 25s. ;)
|
Well, tough titties to them. I have a fake ID.
|
In venues round by me, they ask if you want to drink at the door and if you do they ask you for ID and if you have ID they give you this wristband (that can only be cut off, so you cant take someone elses). If you don't have the wristband no matter how old you look they won't serve you. And it means that anyone can just go to the gig. There is absolutely No reason, apart from elitist snobbory why under 18's can't go to gigs!
