Thurston news
http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-3291979,00.html
This interview is in Hebrew so I'll give you the big news. Thurston talks about his last visit to Israel, how he enjoyed it, How it reminded him growing up in Florida an so on... Then the reporter ask him about Sonic Youth future plans. Thurston replies that since their contract with Geffen is over they feel free now and the coming year will be devoted to more varied work and to touring (since no one buys records these days anyway). The big news is that Thurston is expecting to release his next solo album on ep this coming spring!!! |
interesting... you read hebrew? or it was some internet translator?

My Hebrew is better than my English :)

hmmm, thurston should stop giving interviews altogether and just finish the damn thing. he's been saying it's coming soon for years now and i won't believe any of it until it's actually hit the stores.
the "more varied work" and touring part sounded very good though. |

I think that's because his "solo" records keep on getting turned into Sonic Youth records. I'm pretty sure he said that the empty page, disconnection notice, and rain on tin were originally meant to be on a solo record (he played them acoustically for about a year before Murray Street came out). Not sure about Nurse, but a lot of those songs seemed like they came mostly from ideas Thurston had, only a little less with that one. The Rather Ripped material also was born from a lot of solo acoustic Thurston jams. I would really like them to move away from this kind of Thurston-based song writing and really really jam songs out as a band again. Although I guess, with their age, children, tour schedule, and living in different states, its probably easier for them to go this route. |
thanks for the update!
