worst period of music?

starting at the 50's.

porkmarras 09.01.2006 09:14 AM

I assume that it doesn't have to be a decade.

Inhuman 09.01.2006 09:21 AM

I voted 50's particularly for my lack of knowledge. 80's was one of the key decades in my opinion, but I'm sure the 50's introduced a lot of key icons.

Indeed Nefeli, that's why i've asked the question in the first place. How can anyone say that a whole decade is musically rubbish? That way of thinking is so last century. There has always been good music throughout decades. The fact that music charts were invented has inculcated in the listener the notion that what is sold is representative as a whole of the music output of any given period of time.

But then not everything was bad within the britpop genre(Pulp to name just one) and britpop wasnt the only thing that happened in music in the 90s even as it was happening.

nicfit 09.01.2006 09:30 AM

i'd go with all the unnecessary prog-stuff,not sure which decade to choose(some bands are still going, and nowadays some others rip off that genre) ,not all the bands were rubbish, but most of them (and most of that music) in my opinion is kinda worthless.

pantophobia 09.01.2006 10:31 AM

the 00s

where there has always been great underground music every decade, only until this decade where there was no singular genre or trend in the mainstream that merits much remembrance

the closest being hip-hop, but there has been too much inconsistency of the best selling artists, for every Jay-Z, there was a Puffy or Master P, for every Outkast, there is a Black Eyed Peas, and for every Nas, Fat Joe and Jadakiss, there a thousand Chingys, Fabolous, Slim Thug, those others aren't worth mentioning

HaydenAsche 09.01.2006 10:43 AM

They were all terrible.

Danny Himself 09.01.2006 10:46 AM

The noughties suck balls.

king_buzzo 09.01.2006 11:37 AM

00s like someone above said

k-krack 09.01.2006 11:45 AM

I pick the fifties. because i honestly don't like blues and that. i like jazz... but the decades that follow suit me much better.

Iain 09.01.2006 11:49 AM

What about rock and roll. Bo Diddleys first album is great. And an abundance of Doo Wop is a bonus.

k-krack 09.01.2006 11:50 AM

What about rock'n'roll? Like i said, i honestly don't care for that stuff, it bores the crap right outta me.

king_buzzo 09.01.2006 11:51 AM

i hate the 80s hair metal

Iain 09.01.2006 11:51 AM

Fair enough.

Hip Priest 09.01.2006 12:11 PM

The 1990's, especiially the mid to late 90's were uninspiring to say the least - I don't think I've ever bought so little music as I did then. For a while I just thought maybe I was getting old, but the 00's have quashed that notion as they've been superb.
