Film buffs help me out

If you had to recommend one of these boxsets to someone who'd never seen any of these films which would you go for?

!@#$%! 09.01.2006 07:55 PM

holy fuck. i'd take the cassavetes dvd.

that's a kickass set. all brilliant movies.

otherwise i'd take box #2 of werner herzog.

i haven't seen much of louis malle so i can't issue an opinion.

atari 2600 09.01.2006 07:56 PM

that stuff's all good

but
apocalypse now: the complete dossier

only it's not complete

no hearts of darkness

!@#$%! 09.01.2006 07:59 PM

what? apocalypse now is not there...

i'd still take all those ace cassavetes flicks over coppola

i love apocalypse now but too much is too much

Either of the Herzog boxes. Maybe Herzog/Kinski would get the edge slightly. Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre are both monumentally awesome films, as is My Best Fiend actually.

Although I think the other box is more even and has Strozek which is also amazing. One of my favourite endings in any film I think.

!@#$%! 09.01.2006 08:03 PM

yeah i had a hard time picking a one herzog box over the other. i ended with #2 because those are full monster productions.

however-- ALL of those cassavetes movies are excellent, and that's why i'd pick that BOX. since box is all about more stuff. that fucker was a fucking genius, making movies on weekends, and with his endless pots of spaghetti to feed the crew. which reminds me of a woman under the influence.

fucking cassavetes! genius!!

i've never seen any of louis malle's films, or any of the films in that second herzog box. i'd probably go for the cassavetes box, but only because two of my friends have both of those herzog boxes and i can borrow them quite easily.

or maybe you should go for this:

A request:

Atari, clean up your PM's.

(((totally off topic)))

Toilet & Bowels 09.01.2006 09:29 PM

A have both Herzog boxsets...they were well worth it. Pick whichever you want, but how can you say no to Klaus Kinski, really?

Orta 09.01.2006 11:29 PM

I recommend this: http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/fi...on-p-4775.html.

Robert Bresson is the greatest film marker of all time. Though that set does not have his seminal release Au Hasard Balthazar.

I haven't seen any of those movies.

atari 2600 09.02.2006 09:29 AM

Gena Rowlands was a featured guest at The Virginia Film Festival a couple of years ago and all of the Cassavetes movies were shown on the big screens all about town. To immerse myself, I was drunk most of the time.

This year, we'll have the USA premiere of Hollywoodland on September 5th.
Production designer Leslie McDonald will be on hand for Q&A.

It opens nationwide September 8th.
