Most spaghetti westerns are not about cowboys and do not refer to the characters as cowboys- but outlaws, bandits, gunmen, bounty hunters, mercenaries, etc.

The ending was so shocking & so un-Hollywood I think it was never shown in America or the UK until relatively recently. |
I love the landscapes etc in westerns, but most seem to drag on and on. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, for example.
